High ISO images on compacts are always contentious. For landscapes/travel/architecture, I never go above ISO400 (on a Panasonic GF2) and everything is peachy.

Edit: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/47682080/misc/400.jpg 2,000 x 2,000 image (usual size is 3,500 x 3.500). Panasonic GF2 with 45-175mm lens @ 175mm 1/500 @ f/5.6 ISO 400 hand-held. I used a small dab of Noise Ninja.

That's a lovely image.

Going to take my camera down tomorrow as a couple of mates are doing a charity skydive. I'm not hopeful for anything great but you never know.

I have to get up at about 5 am. What the actual fuck

Well yesterday was a really succesfull day actually. Despite changeable and dodgy weather (notably winds), my mates just about managed to get up and do their jump. Found a few places for some 'arty' shots as well as shots of the day documenting it etc.

Anyone into planes much? Might have a few ok shots of some of those flying vehicles that I don't really understand.

The EF mount has been around since 1987. If the model name written around the lens starts with EF then they will work with modern full frame and APS-C (crop sensor) bodies np. If it starts with FD (unlikely tbh) then you're out of luck re compatibility with a new camera body.

Its a Canon EOS 1000, just did a search for it. released in 1990 film (obviously)

It had a EF 35-80 (?) with it and she also bought a EF 80-200 (?) as an extra. She wanted to start to get into photography, but she never got the chance unfortunatley

Ooh, might be ok with these lenses then?

They will *work* just fine but you will have to do without such fancy things as autofocus (probably, although the USM system has been around since the late 80's) and image stabilisation (definitely).

They do have a little motor inside them, but the lithium cell that runs the camera is long dead, so i cant get it working atm

The lenses have a little switch on the top side, which i think is the auto focus

Yeah that's the auto\manual focus switch, the AF system draws power from the camera battery so assuming the lenses have been kept well they will work just fine.

And afaik the 1100D is a great camera, I've seen good review scores for it with the only negative things being the sort of stuff that keeps it affordable and "entry level" in the first place; plastic construction, limited video modes, slow focusing. Nothing there to worry about on a starter camera, it gets all the important stuff right I think.

Thanks, thats exactlly what i need, it doesnt have to have all the whistles and bells as i wouldn't know what to do with them anyway, i need to learn as i use, i pick things up by 'doing' rather than reading about it. I've just read up on the AF as opposed to the FD system, The FD drew power from the camera itself, whereas the AF has the motor inside the lens. I have just managed to get a bit of power from the battery, and the lens does auto-focus. Not bad for a battery thats not been used for probably 12 yrs

The 18-55mm is a shit lens.

That well may be wazz, but its entry level and i'm not David Bailey, and i do have a 35-80 and a 80-200 to play with too

Looks good, but if you have the 50mm f/1.4, I wonder if it'll be needed.

True that, how's the 50mm on the 5D mk2 autofocus wise though? It's average on the 7D and not that accurate - a common complaint. I had to send mine back to Canon for calibration, it came back much better but I've never been that confident with it since it has occasionally missed focus (particularly in low light). My 17-55mm f/2.8 is much more reliable at 50mm.

Here's hoping for further pancakes.

I'm pretty fucking impressed with the autofocus and intelligent auto mode on the mk3. Used it almost exclusively in these modes at the weeked as I was mostly snapping quick people shots and the like and there hasn't been a single face even remotely unclear, and this is on the less than great EF 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 II USM (mostly). Even these shots have good sharpness and detail, so I can't wait to see what it's capable of with a stunning lens...

Did you get a manual with your Mk3 called "FUCK SAKE GOOGLE IT?". There should be one in there.

Review here - http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/489-canon_100_28_5d?start=1

Samples with comparisons here - http://www.the-digital-picture.com/...CameraComp=0&SampleComp=0&FLIComp=0&APIComp=0

In short, looks absolutely faptastic. The only thing to complain about is the lack of L kudos, but at that price and performance right from wide open, who cares (except Clown)!

Yeah I have been looking but I trust your guys judgement so if anyone has experience with them it's always good to get a real account. Thinking at around £300 it'll be worth a pop for fiddling about with macro shots. I don't think it'd get huge usage so I can't really see the need for the L version, which seems very similar.
