Klaus has posted a detailed review of the new Tamron 24-70 f/2.8 and it looks ... *drum roll* fucking epic.

http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/741-tamron2470f28eosff

Cut to the chase:

http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/741-tamron2470f28eosff?start=1 - Tamron stats

http://www.photozone.de/canon_eos_ff/528-canon2470f28ff - Canon 24-70 stats

It's as good as the canon, infact it's sharper in most places except the border at 35mm & f/2.8 - aberrations are also very well controlled. Canon and Nikon don't have image stabilisation on their equivalents where this Tamron does. The addition of weather sealing makes it a superb lens all round. Best bit? Half the price of Canon's new 24-70 f/2.8 and less than the Nikon equivalent. Take a bow Tamron.

http://www.wexphotographic.com/buy-tamron-24-70mm-f2-8-di-vc-usd-sp-lens-canon-fit/p1530694 - (you'll get it cheaper)

Where can I get one of these Tamrom lenses with Canon written on it?

Still not sure. No comparisons with the mkII Canon equiv. yet and I've heard the Tamron isn't quite quick enough for my super leet camera.

You beat me to it! Came onto the forums to post just that.

I hope so, really hope so. I'm praying it's an all new sensor design too if it's genuine so that we can catch up with Nikon.

It's the price that'll be the sticking point, if the 5D Mk3 is £3k RRP, then this can't possibly be cheaper.

It can't be cheaper, they mention the "1d-class body" (weather-sealed awesomeness), AF system with "major functions same as 1DX" and dual DIGIC 5+ processors where the 5d3 "only" has 1. It sounds like it would be a toned down 1d-x (with a much higher MP count and probably without the integrated battery grip) rather than a souped up 5d3. I saw on the source that there's a possibility of 4k video as well. Funnily enough, it probably won't be much cheaper than £4k. :(

Yeah the accessories are always eye-wateringly expensive close to launch - I got my grip from Digital Rev actually (£150ish if I remember correctly), it's not weather sealed or anything but I wouldn't be without it when I'm doing sports with the monopod; it's so easy with a RRS monopod head, a lens with a tripod collar and a gripped body.

One thing you do get is a massive increase in battery life due to flexibility that it offers. Not only do you have the space for an extra battery but it also comes with a cartridge that fits in the same spot that takes 6xAA's.

DNG or your camera's native RAW format? I've used CR2 since I bought my camera but some things I have seen have got me thinking that, if I switch to Lightroom, DNG is the way to go.

DISCUSS.

I just use what comes out of my camera? I don't get it. They're .cr2s btw.

Shoot CR2, DPP doesn't open DNG.

I understand you can convert CR2 to DNG easily, but not the other way.

FUCK YOU CAL.

I know that you can include a full backup of the CR2 (which can be extracted) inside the DNG as well as the DNG RAW. Obviously this leads to mahoosive DNG files.

I never really used DPP TBH, ACR opens most any RAW files (CR2 or DNG or whatever) with ease. LR4 does look rather tasty as a total workflow solution, I have to say. I might just stick with CR2 in it though - I don't really mind the xmp file for every CR2, it's not often I actually go into the photo folders outside of ACR.

LR and ACR are super sexy, DPP is a fugly app.

However, DPP does a far better job of RAW conversion with regards to noise / banding so I evaluate what processing is required and pick one. ACR is my usual go-to though.

Think I use ACR, haven't used DPP to my knowledge. Should probably install it or something.
