Actually im atm trying to get my head around the game so i picked best team so i can get head around it this weekend im gonna start Actenly Stanley or how ever you spell them

I always found it better learning at a team where you had to find players to better your cause. Rather than buying players cause you got 80 million and don't really need it. Go to a club where you gotta sell to get cash then buy in new talent. This in my opinion is a better way of getting into the game.

Just play some matches with your prefered formation and see how you get on. there is more to the game than buying a new player, get your scouts out looking for new talent then buy them.

Dude Johson and beattie got hatricks galore during pre season. I assume you got beat in the community shield off Liverpool. Best team in the game, most money and best squad and you are asking for help!!! I suggest you uninstall before you do yourself damage, being relegated with the best team has been known to render the manager disabled.

Beattie who ? Johnson who ? help is good please help :)

Like Marc I started with Everton, you got a few solid players in key positions, and can sell some of the crap to make a bit of cash. Not much pressure at Everton you are not expected to win a trophy every season. Andy Johnson and James Beattie Strikers.

Tottenham could be good aswell alot of players to choose from and about 8 million to spend. If you decide you need more cash you have a big squad to sell some off and generate cash.

Play the game though mate, you'll get beat and its shit but learn from the experience, dont keep giving them lovely nice team talks kick their arses sometimes it really works.

I got beat 1-0 off Chelsea in my first match (and had a 90 minute goal disallowed) 2nd match I got beaten 5-1 off West Ham I went mad with the twats. 3rd match I played Arsenal away and won 2-0 all the fun of Footie manager in 3 games :)

hehe people will help you anyway :)

The game is a bitch in the top league's though, really unforgiving. A lot easier to get a handle on the tactics in the lower league's

Halfway through first season as Middlesborough manager atm (I used the random option and just played the first team it offered). First 10 games I lost 8 (including a rather embarrasing 4-0 spanking by Newcastle). Turned it around a tad now though, Im back upto 13th in the league.

Only player I've managed to buy is Almunia from Arsenal (who is a cracking goalkeeper by the way, average rating of 8.23 from 23 games). No money for wages for anyone else.

Started as Man Utd for a quick look about. Lots of decent young Brazilians that can get on the cheap from Fluminese (sp!) which is one their feeder clubs. They make it a bit easy if you have guts to ask for transfer funs. Start with 16mill, ask for more and it goes to about 31mill, spent that and asked for more and was giving another 15mill :p

Toni is a decent sigining, but will cost between 16 and 23mill to get him. Still worth it i found. Links up will with rooney. Spent a load of money but more on 18-21 year olds looking to the future. Should prove decent enough.

Also managing Southend as they were the local team in my youth. Bit harder as no money for anything so just working with what got, and no one wants to go to them on loan etc that would actually strengthen the squad. But only a few games into the season so far

This is the best tactic tbh. Snap up all the young up and comming brazilians. Put them on a heavy training regime then in 2-3 years they are awesome!

Im a bully to the man utd board.. they hate me soon i think

Give me 16million, ask for more and up to 31million.
Spend it all
Ask for more
Get 15million more
spend it all
ask for more
They say no
I say yes or i quit
They say no
I ask for more again
they say no
I say give or i quit you bitches
and they go "ok ok 15million more for you"

They are a walk over. Think it helps that I got Villa and Toni, and Villa was a much loved signing. Front line has got so much strength in depth now. Midfield is naturally strong but looking for a couple more youngsters, training up a 18year old Brazilian wingback who cant tackle to move into midfield. Playing a 4-4-2 attacking style with indepth tactics for most the team, especially midfielders.

4 friendlies played with this setup, 1 goal let in, 23 scored. But then the Austrialian friendlies are easy. Keep restarting the game so i get a feel for the transfer market as each one ebs and flows differently. So much money being thrown about in this one, and with Chelsea the only big money club in Premiership then i feel pity for the lower clubs.

When i get home tonight I give a list of players i got and amounts, some for under 200k, some for under 5million but going to triple in value across coming years.

For people that want to abuse the game early on, get FM2007 scout genie. Can do a search on players potential ability, current ability etc etc. Can give you an idea of what young players to get if looking to future. Dont advise it if you want to scout out properly though as ruins the fun. I was just being nosey at it as people had advised it. Search engine good on it and it shows players final stats they could end up with at full potiential. Only tested it on players I had in my team mind you as dont want to spoil the game.

my game got stuck in a loop then wouldn't re-load :(

was playing in the Spanish first division and accidentally put a player in my squad who was not registered, it came up with the usual "a squad number will have to be assigned to one player" thingy but then couldn't change any squad numbers as it was all registered (this was during the squad registration window) bah and i had just won 6-0 against Racing Santander too :/

anyone know when the first patch is out? :p

Nah its CD only 500 or so Mb.

So what is everyone's tactic?

I'm currently going with liverpool as 4-2-2-1-1 with a flat back four, 2 defensive midfielders, 2 wide wingers 1 attacking midfielder and a lone striker.

Undefeated in 20 games though a quite a few were draws.

Or Bojinov who is the best player in the Football manager series, for about £14mill.

I'd have to disagree. The best player in '05 and '06 (and probably '07 as well, not bought it yet) has got to be Anthony Vanden-Borre. Playing at centre-back for Man Utd at 17/18 years old and averaged over 9.00 for the whole season :D

well i will do some tests of course

i suppose the game simulates injuries so i have other formations into account

for example another formation could be playing with 3 midfielders and 2 strikers like atletico did with costinha, maniche and luccin + torres and mista or real madrid did with emerson, diarra, guti with raul and van nistelrooy

i will check what is better depending on results

bojinov was amazing in 06, not been able to get him yet in 07 due to him being bloody expensive and co-owned (damn italian system!!)

also noticed value changes much quicker, bought a player for £2.1 million when he was worth about £2 million, now he's worth £3.7 million and his stats have barely changed, i guess its cos he's playing well o_O

oh and i play a 4-3-1-2 attacking formation just won 3-0 against real madrid (as Villarreal) so im happy :p

Wont the price also be based on his contract length etc - if you just bought him his contract may well be longer now than it was.

i play 4-4-2 system

The wingers running up the line with their creativity, crossing, running with ball etc high. They also set to switch positions so as to make it harder to be marked.

The central midfield depends on who I have in there. Most the time i got a more definsive minded player (carrick) and more attacking minded (Scholes/Park) so they each have different characteristics in the tactics. Generally i present the attacking minded player the free role, high creativity and basically has freedom to do anything he wants. The defensive minded still remains creative but he collects the ball deeper and looks to play it out. Very much the playmaker however i dont set him as such because I dont want him to dictate the whole team.

I always have solid strike force, and with all this competition for spaces now it more important to play at least 2 forwards. Rooney, Toni, Villa, Saha, Solskjear, Smith. Some them can double up into midfield which i always try to look for. This means that i can change the team setup during matches very easily. Pushing extra men upfront or dropping someone back into a deeper position.

This said, in the lower leagues i play a 4-3-1-2 system. Hard to describe this setup but it simple in reality. The defenders run up the line (arrows moving 1 position up), the 3 midfielders are all CM's. the left and right run forward and out to the wing (Arrow moves from the central position forward and to the sideline one position) and the single attacking midfielder has a free role and runs through the middle. Use this in the lower league because i rely on my strikers ability to score more then a playmaker.

Kompany was better than him. Bojinov was the king of 05 and 06 :D Any hardcore manager would tell you he was always the first player you bought.
