Great work Chilly.

Any advice? I really don't want to muscle-build but I injured my arm last year basically because I lack the strength to avoid those injuries (I basically tweaked a ligament in my elbow lifting and twisting my bike) so I'm gonna have to man up and do it.

Legs are fine, I'd just want arms, shoulders and core strength...

Either do what I do and pay someone to just take care of it and shout at you (I'm quite rich and have loads of free time, so this may not work for everyone). OR, read up on it. I expect there's 1001 books/guides. However, in general, do not ignore twinges when lifting, make sure you warm up and don't go straight for your maximum weight. Do 10-15 reps that you can only just manage, rest up, do it again, rest up, try and fail to do it again but do as many as you can. If possible, find a mate to do it with. Motivation is absolutely key for me and is what I view the majority of my trainer's wages as: forced motivation.

What sort of things? :)
Certain body weight exercises - planking, tricep lifts. I also consistently beat my records for aerobic exercise on the rowing machine. We do very high intensity 60s/60s on/off intervals and I do more distance every time we do it.

Aye, last time I had bicep bulges was when I split up with my ex (ten+ years ago) and the amount of interest you get is massive. However, I was suspicious of all those women - because I was the same person on the inside, y'know?
:)

Yeah, but pretending that physical attraction is somehow dishonourable or "fake" is going to land you nowhere. I'm fully aware that as a fat cunt girls do not see me as a sexual object. It's about getting your foot in the door. Sure, you'll never end up marrying some girl who is dead behind the eyes or who can't take a joke, but you'll never even know that about them unless they can stand to look at you ;)

Clothes wise, TK Maxx do some great stuff for cheap. around december. I got a £400 jacket there for £100, and some £150 pants for £50.

Skis/Boots, I would rent the first 2-3 times until you stop falling over, damaging new skis while learning is a bad idea.

Also get a day lesson at an indoor slope, and spend some time there afterwards as well. It'll save you a lot of time when you actually go and don't have to spend your paid for time on a bunny hill learning the basics.

Your mates may well have kit they might be willing to lend. Offer to replace anything you knacker and buy them dinner - will still end up cheaper :)

After looking at ECA's prices, I'm thinking now isn't perhaps the best time to go..

My parents are taking me, with their family friends, so it's not biggie, but they want me to pay for the gear, which looks like it'll cost about the same to get there & accommodation.

I have a Polish mate who goes skiing in Poland he swears that it's just as good as everywhere else and 10x cheaper.

Mountains a mountain! If it's actually the skiing you want, of course.

You can get a jacket+pants for £100 combined, they won't be the best but they'll be plenty good enough.

If its a 1 time thing I get the hesitation, but if you take into account the gear will last you 5-10 years it isn't a huge investment.
Hell you see people wearing 70s neon onesies sometimes :p

Ski/Boot hire is around 50-75 euros for the week for beginner gear in resort ( in austria ). France is pricier, Italy varies. Depends where you're going.
Also there is a lift pass cost on top which is usually around 150-250 euros depending on resort.

I dont agree any more tbh, last couple of times it seems more and more people are leaving snowboard to go with dual tip skiing.
You gotta have the twin tips skis

On another note: I've dropped like 8 kilos since Max was born. Holding back on fizzy drinks and hardly any alcohol alongside with more veg and started eating breakfast. Got below 100kg /flex

Cutting out one or two BS items is so easy and so effective. Fizzy drinks are killer.

People who smoke weed and sit down on the slope likes snowboards

A group of about ten of my mates snowboard. Only one of them smokes weed. They all work professional jobs in IT management or Engineering and turn up to work in suits.

Methinks you're the one who's making a rash judgemental generalisation on the back of my tongue-in-cheek comment. :)

Agree 100%. But didn't you have a pop at me about me grumbling about coke?

People at Uni bitch at me for drinking diet coke, they all drink (As my dad likes to call it, everywhere he goes, even when he orders it 'full fat coke.')

They're like 'omg it's so bad for you, you don't know what's in it'

Whereas they know what's in Coca Cola..

Ignorance is bliss.

How much PT sessions costing you?

What works for you might not work for others. Thing I find is (Even I) that people dislike dropping weight. If you tell people they need to drop 10kg to be able to do 10-15 reps/set they'll be like.. "NAH".

Heavy Day = Strength (3x5 reps or 3x6 reps of working weight or higher, 2 warmup sets)
Light Day = Hypertrophy (7-12 reps, 3-5 sets (inc 2 warmup))

Worked for me when I was at the point of handling "legs", "chest" and "back" twice a week without issue. Now? After a long time off? Dunno what I'd aim for.

On a sad note..

I LOST ALL MY GAINZ BRO :(

£120 a week for PT plus the £80/mo for the gym membership. Best money I've ever spent.

Right boys I am hitting the gym big time and I hAve 2 questions for you...
1. Does what you eat really have that big effect on your performance? Sometimes I can work really hard, other days I struggle to run a mile?
2. It flashes up HIGH HEART
RATE on the treadmill and really puts me off as I am only jogging. Is this ok? Or should I only exercise to 85% max heart rate?

Thank you x

1. Yep. You should eat something if you're going to extended strenuous exercise. If I'm going to do more than an hour or so on the bike then I really have to eat. But I've generally got an hour's worth of energy saved up in my muscles.

2. The heart rate will come down quick as you get fitter. As in really quick. I'm of the opinion that unless you're likely to have a cardiac it's prolly worth ignoring the warnings as the high heart rate is where all the cardio/aerobic gains are - especially early on.

But if you're hot on certain targets (weight loss being one of them) there's certain "zones" you should stick to - and someone here will be able to tell you what they are.

My personal opinion on weight loss is just do fuckloads of exercise - I do all day bike trips, so I get plenty - and eat less than you burn. Fitness will come, and I'm not trying to be a total ninja :)
