So there I was, sitting down and listening thru Fear Factory's latest album called "Archetype". Everything was fine and dandy up until I came up to the 9th track, named Default Judgement.

Now something here bothered me, I recognized the riff but could'nt place it. A few days passed and whilst listening to some shoutcast radio the exact same riff came up. It was'nt Fear Factory though, it was Rammstein - Sonne. Now I dont have any adress I could legally let you listen to it but maybe you can listen to it anyway. Am I right or what? It's pretty damn close anyway.

Anyone know of any clearcut cases of riff-ripping apart from this one? And I dont mean sampling, I mean actually playing it.

Nirvana's Come As You Are is a completel ripoff of Killing Joke's Eighties.

Bush - Glycerine and Whipping Boy - We Don't need nobody else. You can sing virtually the whole lyrics from one song over the other.

Bare in mind that just because two songs feature the same riff, it doesn't mean that one band stole it off the other... It's possible that they just came up with a riff that was exactly the same, and either didn't know, or just didn't care.

I don't think i'll be buying Archetype, as i heared some tracks from it on the R1 Rock Show, and they were a bit wank. The chrouses seemed too nu-metal, in the vein of Digimortal popiness, rather than Obsolete style emotional stuff. And the heavier parts sounded uninspired and boring. I heard one song, i think it was 'Cyber waste', and at first i was impressed as it's genuinely heavy. However, halfway through the track, i realised that the riffing was really repetitive, and nothing special whatsoever.

Nothing as good as Demanufacture or Obsolete any more, sad but unavoidable. Obsolete is probably my most listened to CD :/

I can't stand the screaming by Fear Factory. I love some of the music though.
