Dyss said:so you mean that its okay to have extra $$ and time in raceing to get better but not in games?
Might be true that alot of ppls that spend alot of time get there perfect grps and template get killed by not as elitis grp. But most grps that go 1337 will be better and harder to kill and know how to play with eachother....
Dyss said:Not everyone is obsessed with winning.Who said elits ppls/grps/guilds are...?
well we all know the most are
tho some like to want to be obsessed with winning and some are with obsessed with try winning and think its okay if we lost again.
rvn said:so its ok to reach for success in football because it has money in it, but not daoc/gameing?
If you have all that, it most likely means you are very good at something.rvn said:personally i would rather be very good at something than to own several houses and have 10 stacked racer cars in my garage.
Enjoying the game to the fullest being in a competative good working group with no wait time every night in emain.... and having nice pve encounters with the "random" afk ppl in the same group/battlegroups as yourself = success.Gordonax said:Define "success" in DAoC.
I suspect we have a different idea about what it constitutes

Having fun is so much more important in life then having lots of money / irl status.
Altho, at the same time that gaming is kinda an exscape from reality, it also is reality. Things are what you make them to be.
Bracken said:Funny how you Nolby boys completely fail to get the point It ain't about saying that being competitive is a problem, or about knocking a natural desire to do something well. There is no problem with that at all and we all have it to varying degrees. It's about when that becomes the basis for some people to act like complete tossers. That's when it's gone too far. And there is no doubt that some in this game are foolish enough to think that because they have a certain number of rps it gives them the right to treat others badly. If some people acted like they do in DAOC in real life then they would get a serious beating. Unfortunately they can get away with it online because they are hiding behind a pc.
As for what's important in life, of course everyone has their own priorities. However there is one simple truth - you have to eat and have a roof over your head before anything else can happen. That's where the difference is between something that is done purely for leisure (i.e. DAOC) and something that is about earning a living. When you get the former out of perspective then it's a problem.

[NO]Subedai said:the most important thing in life is to have fun everything else after that is secondary imo. to have fun you first need to supply a roof over your head in most circumstances ( e.g job) and then fun comes after. i guess in special circumstances u dont need a job and are at leisure to play as much daoc as u want, this is probably the situation alot of the high play time people are in.
[NO]Subedai said:i think alot of the elite people, or people who try to act elite are alot diffrent irl than in game, u really think they act all macho and shit irl, lol ofc not. for past 1-2 years ive run in the so called elite grps and being called a elite prick and stuff, perhaps part of this is true. but i think alot of people have a online persona that is diffrent to their irl one, atleast i believe i did to a certain degree, i would often act diffrent for fun but fundamental parts of my irl persona stayed with me ingame. i think if u met alot of these elite people irl uld find 2 types, 1: the shy reclusive people who dont do much and are scared of socialising and 2: people who are quite mainstream and dont really have any big issues and have generally got to the elite stage of gaming through personality traits of theirs rather than using it as a hide away from rl.

This is what we're talking about--people acting like idiots due to their number of RPs and thus their self-perceived "leetness". Thank you, Anyu, for proving the point of this whole thread.Z^^ said:having nice pve encounters with the "random" afk ppl in the same group/battlegroups as yourself = success.

I'm not having a pop at anyone here, but unless you chose Midgard on day one of release, out of luck, your whole existance "in DAOC" is based on leetism. Can't hack it, won't try to hack it, if your class is broke, then reroll.
