so you mean that its okay to have extra $$ and time in raceing to get better but not in games?
Might be true that alot of ppls that spend alot of time get there perfect grps and template get killed by not as elitis grp. But most grps that go 1337 :D will be better and harder to kill and know how to play with eachother....

That's not always true. I know an awful lot of newer players who're convinced that they can't even think of RvRing without complete MP/ToA setups. They don't stop and think that learning to play their characters might actually be more important.

Not everyone is obsessed with winning.Who said elits ppls/grps/guilds are...?
well we all know the most are :D
tho some like to want to be obsessed with winning and some are with obsessed with try winning and think its okay if we lost again.

Not all are, though - I was replying to someone's post specifically there :)

Define "success" in DAoC.

I suspect we have a different idea about what it constitutes :)

If you have all that, it most likely means you are very good at something.

Enjoying the game to the fullest being in a competative good working group with no wait time every night in emain.... and having nice pve encounters with the "random" afk ppl in the same group/battlegroups as yourself = success.

i fully agree with Rvn.

Having fun is so much more important in life then having lots of money / irl status.

Altho, at the same time that gaming is kinda an exscape from reality, it also is reality. Things are what you make them to be.

Funny how you Nolby boys completely fail to get the point ;) It ain't about saying that being competitive is a problem, or about knocking a natural desire to do something well. There is no problem with that at all and we all have it to varying degrees. It's about when that becomes the basis for some people to act like complete tossers. That's when it's gone too far. And there is no doubt that some in this game are foolish enough to think that because they have a certain number of rps it gives them the right to treat others badly. If some people acted like they do in DAOC in real life then they would get a serious beating. Unfortunately they can get away with it online because they are hiding behind a pc.

As for what's important in life, of course everyone has their own priorities. However there is one simple truth - you have to eat and have a roof over your head before anything else can happen. That's where the difference is between something that is done purely for leisure (i.e. DAOC) and something that is about earning a living. When you get the former out of perspective then it's a problem.

Note that if you played amateur football with no hope of ever becoming professional (say you were too old or whatever) but still played it to the exclusion of everything else that'd be just the same....

To rephrase what Bracken said above - it's not the fact that you spend lots of time playing football... it's when people use it as a justification to be an arse - e.g. in the local pub: "I scored 3 goals last week, get out of my face! *smack*" isn't really acceptable ;) even if it's someone who happens to occasionally play football for fun.

Think I've brutally murdered that metaphor - oh well.

i think its sad to take the piss or criticise sum1 who wants to be good at computer games like rvn etc. just because its not as mainstream as being good at plumbing or something doesnt make it wrong.

the most important thing in life is to have fun everything else after that is secondary imo. to have fun you first need to supply a roof over your head in most circumstances ( e.g job) and then fun comes after. i guess in special circumstances u dont need a job and are at leisure to play as much daoc as u want, this is probably the situation alot of the high play time people are in.

i think alot of the elite people, or people who try to act elite are alot diffrent irl than in game, u really think they act all macho and shit irl, lol ofc not. for past 1-2 years ive run in the so called elite grps and being called a elite prick and stuff, perhaps part of this is true. but i think alot of people have a online persona that is diffrent to their irl one, atleast i believe i did to a certain degree, i would often act diffrent for fun but fundamental parts of my irl persona stayed with me ingame. i think if u met alot of these elite people irl uld find 2 types, 1: the shy reclusive people who dont do much and are scared of socialising and 2: people who are quite mainstream and dont really have any big issues and have generally got to the elite stage of gaming through personality traits of theirs rather than using it as a hide away from rl.

I totally agree. Like I said, it aint about whether people want to be good at the game, it's when it's taken too far and they act like tossers because of their in-game rr or the guild they belong to. I actually don't think there are that many who do that - most of us know the culprits are ;)

Absolutely. Some people are at a stage in life where their housing and food are taken care of (for me it was when I was a student, when the government still gave grants :D ). The point above still applies to them though.

1. a boy
2. a girl

That's exactly the point - they put on this front and behave in a way in game because they can get away with it. Which is a pity because some of them are probably a lot nicer irl than they are in game :)

I've no idea how many that's true for. All I know is that I and the few people I do know irl from in-game are no different whether they are online or not. Maybe it's an age thing :p

This is what we're talking about--people acting like idiots due to their number of RPs and thus their self-perceived "leetness". Thank you, Anyu, for proving the point of this whole thread.

Playing midd, you will always be "l337ist". Especially, if you rerolled to join Midd. I'm not having a pop at anyone here, but unless you chose Midgard on day one of release, out of luck, your whole existance "in DAOC" is based on leetism. Can't hack it, won't try to hack it, if your class is broke, then reroll.

It's not a question of taking the piss out of people like Rvn for wanting to be good at computer games. It's a question of people like Rvn (not him personally) taking the piss out of people who have other priorities. Witness, for example, the constant stream of "noobs", "AFK'ers", "zergers" etc etc etc that people who "just want to be good at DAoC" come out with.

I have no problem with anyone wanting to be good at anything. But that doesn't give them the right to take the piss out of those who choose to play at a more leisurely pace. It's like David Beckham turning up at a local park and calling people wankers for not being able to do a pinpoint 40 yard pass.

But there's nothing wrong with wanting to play classes that aren't broken. Some people like the challenge of playing a class that's a bit different (my next project, just in time for NF: A friar. :) ), but the opposite is true, too.

What makes you a l33t wanker isn't what class you play, it's how you play it. If you come around making statements like Anyu's that Belomar quoted above, you're an idiot no matter what class you play.

can we compare that with how big dudes with 200kg muscles behaves irl? :p

anyway, RPs making some people behave different is just normal, a rush of beeing 'famous' i would guess. after all having lots of RPs prooves you've succeeded (in one way at least) so why shouldnt one be happy and boast with it a while? ;)

i know for sure most people in RR answers on questions newbies ask us, but that doesnt mean we must rvr with them does it? cause im pretty sure alot of envy comes from the rvr, not only that some are better then others (equipment setup etc etc) but also that we play it our way. so when some players dont want to team up to kill that zerg, or that group, or to take that keep, it might seem rude and downgrading.

some people will always be twats no matter how much rps they got; it will probably grown in proportion to their rp count.

Good thing I joined Midgard on release date and even in open beta, simply because the norse feel was much more to my likeing then either of the other two realms.

Otherwise I'd just have been delcared "l337", by this guy. :eek7:

I take it as all that joined Albion on anything but release day are simply zergers and will always be zergers then? Just to follow your line of thinking.

A more clear case of generalisation and sterotyping I've seldom seen :eek7:

L337ism = Must Win no matter what

Their is a bar

L337ism________________________________________________F00nism

Vinter.Stubbe...........Garba.........Angara................Zoy............Flimgob

me personaly, u can see where I am. The closer to the left you are, the more you can't stand to lose, and even if you do lose, refuse to accept and believe u lost, causing all sorts of unusual activities following the losing by the culprit. The closer to the right you are, the more you play for fun, losing still sux tho. In conclusion, to measure "how elitist some is ? " ask them "What do you think of Zoy ?" :D

If they roll a stealther they are fotm's otherwise they can aswell choose to do fg v fg fighting.

Mid as realm tho have always been overpowerd, most people rerolled mid just to be better.
