So, wholesale energy prices being to tits mean that all energy brokers have withdrawn their offerings from the "market" - so you can't "compare the market" (or whatever) to find a tarrif to switch to.

The market is bullshit.

We need to re-nationalise the energy industry. I cannot see what privatisation has given us over what we've lost.

Not something I can ever agree to - Monopolies are fucking appalling for the consumer and the service levels they get - after all if it gets nationalised and you get appalling service from Boris Power, where do you go? Not much you can do other than suck it up really. How long was it the GPO used to quote for a new phone line? How many months?

Also given most of the current issues have been caused by failures in central planning (not investing in gas storage, nuclear etc) I'd be hesitant to give the politicians and civil servants behind them any more say over how power is delivered.

Yeah, no.

British Gas was privatised in 1986. The last of the electricity providers were privatised in 1990. Plenty of time to be in charge of planning.

Bad service? Does bad service count as "it got expensive so all our companies went bust on millions of people because they stood to take a loss"? I mean - that's not bad service - that's NO service.

If they're making profits they'll stick around and spunk your money on shareholders. If not - they'll socialise the losses and ditch their customers.

It's not a market in any real sense. It's a scam.

Boris Johnson has blamed all of the current problems on Brexit.

Do you care to reverse your "it's not Brexit" and "stop being remoaners" positions, considering the guy who pushed Brexit through has said quite definitively that it is Brexit (and also, effectively, "obviously. What did you fucking expect?")?

It seems remoaners have foresight and Brexiteers can't even understand what's going on in front of their own eyes tbh.

I think when you get a facepalm from @Embattle you need to read it as "yes, well, obviously you're correct, but it'd be so shattering to my ego to admit it I can only communicate by emoji"

:)

It more looks like Remoaners have gone all parochial and are struggling to look much past Dover. There's a lorry driver shortage all across Europe and the US, Global Supply Chains are generally struggling, even China are having to ration power as they've run out of coal. Whilst Brexit is undoubtedly a small factor - and I doubt too many Brexiteers thought we could leave the EU without consequence - the DVLA being shut for 18 months and the fucking appalling conditions in the haulage industry are also factors. Throw in our ridiculous media, and someone from the RHA leaking potential supply issues with petrol long before they ever became a thing to our ridiculous media, and we are where we are.

Probably doesn't fit your simplistic worldview that all problems can be blamed on one single thing - but there you go.

Not that I give too much of a shit, I've got half a tank and most of the stations round here have fuel.

More like same old same old, nothing new nor does it change what I said in the past.

Take up your argument with Boris Johnson. It's what HE said, not me :)

No, that's what you've read into his comments. He says there will be a period of readjustment after Brexit. However at no point does he suggest that's the only reason for the issues we are seeing.

In fact, if you read a bit further down the article, you'll see he agrees with me.

Asked about job shortages and supply issues in shops and on petrol forecourts, the PM insisted the lack of lorry drivers - affecting the delivery of goods - was not just a UK issue, claiming the United States and China were seeing similar problems, as well as some countries in Europe.

I did tell my US and Chinese colleagues not to vote to leave the EU, however they clearly didn't listen.

Already covered this. The EU and the UK have had chronic shortages of HGV drivers for years. However, impacts have only been felt since freedom of movement ended as we can't manage with a flexible workforce any more - because we've no access to a flexible workforce.

Freedom of Movement ended towards the end of 2019, we're starting to see issues in September 2021. Not the most compelling correlation I've ever seen, especially with the whole Global Pandemic thing in the middle that makes people less keen to go work in a different country in case they can't get home.

But yeah sorry, Muh Brexit!!"!"!""!!"!"!ONETWO!"!"!"!

Is he only lying to deflect blame from himself when it is convenient to you?

Like Andy Dufresne in Shawshank prison, getting the shit beat out of him, threatened with rape, subjected to torture by corrupt officials and escaping by crawling though a literal river of shit?

Shall we talk about all these dodgy Tory donors or shall we blame Labour instead?

Whenever she puts forward an opinion ask if she knows that because she is a mother. Then accuse her of being unpatriotic anytime she disagrees with you.
