yup cept he resists all the time!

anyway the next horror tale was arcane horror on these 4 teleport pads what a bastard! finally figured it out after about 20+ restarts! this game does make you think ill giv it that.

just finished my first major campaign and ive been quite engrossed for the most part some of the quests are a bit crap but the main story lines are very good

i know ive barely scratched the surface but im really hoping i see this game till the end

my only gripe is like someone mentioned the difficulty seems to be random. fine killin 5-6 mobs in 1 go then i come up against an ogre and no amount of tactical fighting would bring it down and i was forced to lower the difficulty which i thought was a shame cos up until that point i was finding it engaging. my group was completely inadequate for the fight but it was the party i was practically given which was a bit shit.

That's the complete opposite to me. I made a Dwarf Commoner Sword+Board Warrior and I have problems with big groups of mobs, and tend to have to kite or pull one or two in most fights - or I'll have to use injury kits. The Tower near the start was a lot of fun, I got to use the doorway tactics I learnt from the Dragon Warriors books... way back when.

I killed the ogre in the tower on my first try, but used quite alot of time kiting the sucker around on my mage char yea. Since its higher level it will on average resist more spells and special attacks

I'm playing on hard btw. Healing is way too strong on normal, plus half friendly fire on normal is wank.

For groups on my mage I send in the warrior (Stein/Alistair atm) then pick the target hes hitting then cast the resist decrease hex on the primary, walking bomb, life drain x 2 (morrigan + me) and then arcane blast. Make sure they're nice and bunched up. Can also use horror x2 + paralysis (can't wait for area of effect spells) to do some crowd control so that the tank doesn't drop too fast

Also if you don't play a mage, keeping around Morrigan (or whatever entropy mage you can get) is very handy, crowd control is quite powerful in this game even on hard

After the wilds at the start I assumed I'd be loosing the grey warden novices from my party so I followed my usual RPG tight-fisted tactics and sold all their stuff

Ofc I sold Alistair's too, not realising I'd be keeping him after the Joining when the quartermaster disappears and I didn't have a save for ages :/

Did the tower section with a naked tank til I found some armour just before the ogre

Playing on hard too and the friendly fire is another thing you have to consider when opening up with ape spells.

Normal is for chumps.

It's already really really hard. Hard is for masochists.

Actually, I just game Morigan "Heal" (yes, I feel dirty) and it's suddenly a piece of cake. One. Spell. Game?

I'm not getting the spell combo thing, either. What's the point in all these AE spells when they do Friendly Fire? I'm just avoiding those ones at all costs.

Tank in dragonscale armour (high fire resist) and knockdown immune - Taunt the mobs then land fireball/firestorm on him :)

Nice theory, but taunt is rubbish. Honestly, does it even work? Mobs just run past taunting & threatening tanks and big battles always end up as a blob. No way I can use FF spells there.

once you get near the end it carries you along a bit, and you cant go on after u finish the main campaign, so finish up the side bits first if you want :(

now to start an evil toon....

Because heal is immensly powerful in itself on normal.

Point is to use tactics to defeat the enemies, not to just AE everything randomly and win.

Makes no sense to be hit by a friendly fireball and take no damage nor get knocked down for instance. This isn't a wank MMO

But sure, if you like to play on easymode, by all means

With my char + Shale + Sten + Morrigan (with heal+rejuvenation) even hard is too easy after I got level 10 even in boss fights so I'm considering nightmare difficulty. Crowd control is so insanely powerful.

That was fast, how much time did you use? Is there really anything beyond getting Mages+Elves+Dwarves+Humans to help ?

well..
you have to unite all 3 factions, and do the subquests for them, then
defeat the blight, retake the main city, kill the
arch demon dragon thing
then its DONE apart from bitch slapping a certain someone ofc...

once u reach the Landsmeet you are pretty much locked in tho, so dont do that until your ready to finish, it will wait for you ;)

thinking about starting a normal game and use mages only just to see if its possible to have 1 CC heavy toon and the rest AE's/heals :)

theres ALOT of mass CC in this game so it shouldn't be THAT hard. atleast untill theres a boss in the way lol..

just have to have free move turned off so they dont go running into stuff i dont want them to...

You still need a tank / warrior char to tackle bosses, they resist spells alot

Irony? I mean, they did say that you can have a goody two-shoes team that's not as good as the badass evil crew. I believe you've gone with the latter.

My dwarf had sexual relations with the elf, this act of leadership inspired the elf's dexterity score.

Character alignment has nothing to do with level or class, so I don't quite get your point. You can pretty much do the same spec with the other NPCs. Plus, to call Shale evil is just wrong :p

Yeah, I love Shale and Morrigan's comments atleast. So I don't want to swap them about.

Besides, I killed that elf assassin, chased away the dog and killed Wynne so not like I got that many more to choose from :D

well, can maybe get around that if my debuff/AE mage get raise dead (provided theres anything properly dead to raise, not just dead dead things) :)

have a mage with that spell on my hard save and that pet tanks surprisingly well as long as it has threaten...

but bosses shouldn't resist THAT much on normal.

or if all else fails i could spec one mage to be a shapeshifter and get the improved bear talent.
