I for one will be giving Mythic the bird when WOW goes retail. Or maybe before if I get on beta :) I imagine a lot of DAOC players who play Hibernia or Midgard will be doing the same. Most people who play in Albion will probably hang around a little bit longer until they get their FOTM Infils and Sorcerers to 50 only to find out their is nobody to kill in RVR!

Oh sorry, got carried away! I guess my answer is "Yes"!

Heh. WoW will have no more effect than the last 10 'its gonna kill DAoC' game releases did. They were hardly noticeable ;)

After playing the stress test, all I do is wait for wow atm.
And no, it will not be another SWG. You'll see, this is a game for years to play.
There will always be a hardcore group in daocc that keeps playing it, I just wonder if the zones will not seem extremely empty tbh... but no one can foresee that.
The hardcore group will excist of the people who talk the 1337speak on these forums and are in-game number crunchers... they will continue in their own little world.

WoW won't 'kill' DAoC, but seriously doubt that DAoC won't take a major dent.

Blizzard might not innovate a whole lot, but they're very good at polishing ideas and turning them into fun games. And usually they do work to balance their games as good as possible.

On the other side you got Mythic, while they undoubtly made a good game about 3 years ago, they happily ignore their customers, don't care about game balance and just throw in more time grinds.

Guess all those players of 'broken' classes will try WoW, as well as those that dislike the Bot/ML arms race.

I can number at least 10-12 people in my guild that will switch to WoW when it comes out. And it's the people that you play with that make the game imo. DAoC isn't all that great, but playing with the same people for 2.5years gets you kind of attached to them.

WoW will deliver a big blow to DAoC but not a crippling blow, I know alot of people are leaving when WoW goes live but I expect about 25% of those to return to DAoC within 6 months. Mythic will need to do something drastic after that to get people to return but with EQ2 also looming and a number of smaller MMORPG's on the horizon I can see DAoC's player numbers dropping month after month for the next year.

I'll be splitting my time between DAoC and WoW. Will be taking up the GM's job ('guild', not 'game') for the first time since quitting Mid. Playing with a few friends and looking forward to some insane silliness with some people I miss.

Longevity or degree of absorbtion who can say, but the intial signs are really promising.

I've applied for beta but of course no word as yet :)

Yup, thats probably the only reason Ill even try WoW.

Its just the same old game with a shiny new set of graphics - but as with every other game it takes most people quite a while to realise it.

Read something about WoWs PvP plans the other day, couldve summarised it perfectly as 'what DaoC does'. Remember, this is 'innovative', 'new', and 'different' - or something :twak:

Think Daoc will be as dead as when they first introduced PvP servers overhere. RvR will be unzergy with no "leets"out most of the time but as said after the first free month most ppl will be back as im quite sure the PvP system on WoW is crap compared the the Daoc one. just hope we have like 1,72 by the time first month of WoW is gone or peeps might just quit instead.

Question would be, how to innovate medieval (well, sort of) combat ? ;)

in the end it always breaks down to:

Side A vs Side B (vs. Side C/D/E whatever)
melee combat
ranged combat
support
an Strategical Landmark that fits into the 'world' -> Towers/Keeps/Towns

but there are differences between WoW PvP and DAoC PvP.

i doubt DAoC will fade away, mostly from the fact that alot that play DAoC are either

a) not Warcraft fans
b) the sort that dont like the cartoony graphics
or
c) too damn addicted to give a shit about WoW :)

that said... gimme a euro beta invite dammit! :p

Daoc will go on for a couple of years yet but it's seen it's peak imo.
WoW will probably take more people than EQ2, but both are out soon and a whole lot of other interesting games coming out in 2005.

PvP will be a big part of WoW, so I doubt it'll be another SWG. As long as Blizzard keep the PvP fun, it'll hold on to it's subscribers.
SWG lacked high level content(afaik) so players get bored and came back.

Seems like alot of RvR guilds are going to try WoW, a side effect of this might make daoc RvR better for regular players.. as there will be less gank squads out. If it works out like that, doac will still keep alot of people playing.

will be sticking with DAOC for several reason. firstly I don't think I could be arsed starting all over again with no chars etc and secondly WoW will hopefully attract be a magnet for some of the chumps that currently plague DAOC ;)

i think the main problem for doac is that with toa mythic have killed of any real chance of getting new players into the game, it takes so long now that theres no real point starting another char, or a new player starting unless you have a lot of time to put in

Lets face it, WoW is still a very long way off being released yet...at least in Europe.

I don't think Blizzard ever tried to do anything greatly different to any other MMORPG with WoW; that was never the point though. They're aiming for the greatest version of the current mmorpg incarnation. Fine by me :)

There are nothing to be "loyal" to a game about, anyhow I will probably leave because Im already bored with Daoc, and after years with daoc you still know they never gonna make balance perfect(or near) but continue to pump out classes with new abilitys they have no idea how to work one week after they are put in.

Already played Wow, alltho Pve is dull like all games the pvp, seems even better then daoc and then blizzard have proved before that they could balance out their Rts games so I doubt they will have problem with that In their mmorpg.

Simple answer yes.

Before you all spend your money on WoW make sure you check out GuildWars, there is an open beta at the end of October and when it goes live there will be no monthly subscription :D

well, people said DAoC would die when SWG when live but well... it didnt, DAoC will continue (though i reckon WoW will have bigger impact, large short term, then people who tried and didnt like will come back to DAoC)

Will try WoW - impossible to say now if ill quit DAoC because of it.
I will more than likely check back on DAoC when we get Catacombs in EU, and im sure ill want to play the new NF content for a while. Also, WoW is still a long way off from beeing released here in the EU since Blizzard has now announced that the euro release will be later than the US (which will likely be sometime in november/december).

And tbh, give Darkfall or Mourning :)
