I must have missed 99% of the people saying they were going to SWG - there were a few but 99.9999%. Nah.
Big difference between SWG and WoW : as mentioned above WoW has no non-disclosure agreement. SWG had one almost to the very end. ToA had one to the end. WoW if you are don't manage to play it you can read about it.
Does everyone like it? Course not. But the feedback is very positive. The buzz reminds me of when DAoC was launched. No it didn't kill EW but it hurt it. How many Europeans will start playing WoW on American servers.
Lineage 2 - I've seen the new subscription numbers from Lineage 2 - very impressive. Huge compared to DAoC and although I cannot comment personally the reports I get say that it has developed into a very impressive game now that the population has stabilised. CoH is fun and will have PvP in the not to distant future. (DAoC population down a few percent from its post launch peak - strip out the free accounts, the bot accounts
And why shouldn't EQ2 take a chunk of the DAoC population. where do you think the original population came from.
And then there is Guildwars. The first trial I tried was slick. Nice graphics. Nice combat system.
No DAoC will not die. There will I am sure be people playing but I suspect that peak hours will be more like off-peak hours are now. Not good. (Been there got the badge, quit the game). As mentioned IT DAoC hasn't died yet either!
Only a fool would say that the gazillion good posts about WoW (and to a lesser extent EQ2) are false etc. And a greater fool to say that it won't ompact DAoC. The same type of folks predicted that DAoC would not get of the ground and would have no impact on EQ.
It will have an impact. It won't die but things will change. If only NF hadn't had such a negative impact in the US .....
