I must have missed 99% of the people saying they were going to SWG - there were a few but 99.9999%. Nah.

Big difference between SWG and WoW : as mentioned above WoW has no non-disclosure agreement. SWG had one almost to the very end. ToA had one to the end. WoW if you are don't manage to play it you can read about it.

Does everyone like it? Course not. But the feedback is very positive. The buzz reminds me of when DAoC was launched. No it didn't kill EW but it hurt it. How many Europeans will start playing WoW on American servers.

Lineage 2 - I've seen the new subscription numbers from Lineage 2 - very impressive. Huge compared to DAoC and although I cannot comment personally the reports I get say that it has developed into a very impressive game now that the population has stabilised. CoH is fun and will have PvP in the not to distant future. (DAoC population down a few percent from its post launch peak - strip out the free accounts, the bot accounts :(

And why shouldn't EQ2 take a chunk of the DAoC population. where do you think the original population came from.

And then there is Guildwars. The first trial I tried was slick. Nice graphics. Nice combat system.

No DAoC will not die. There will I am sure be people playing but I suspect that peak hours will be more like off-peak hours are now. Not good. (Been there got the badge, quit the game). As mentioned IT DAoC hasn't died yet either!

Only a fool would say that the gazillion good posts about WoW (and to a lesser extent EQ2) are false etc. And a greater fool to say that it won't ompact DAoC. The same type of folks predicted that DAoC would not get of the ground and would have no impact on EQ.

It will have an impact. It won't die but things will change. If only NF hadn't had such a negative impact in the US .....

All I know is I've been waiting for a game thats just semi-descent to come out to give me something to play other than DAOC. I'd be going for the change and it looks very nice. I think DAOC will take a nice size hit at first some will return. The fact that Catacombs is comming out near the release of WoW might keep more people around though. Im sure people will return to daoc just because they fear leaving their 50's. I know I'm going to be trying WoW and hopefully staying there.

What WoW will do to DAOC---->:twak:

I've been just be reminded of a time a couple of years ago, when a lot of fan boys ranted on at lenght about how the X-Box would own the PS2 and how it was going to take over the gaming market and would Sony would go bust, blah, blah, blah and various other bits of uninformed unsubstantiated crap.

Turns out they were quite wrong, as the PS2 still dominates the market to this day.

Now I'm not saying that the select crowd here who thinks WoW will :twak: DAoC (and take some peverse pleasure in that, for reasons I can't fathom, I can only assume its a result of a life of non-achievement) will be wrong, everything about WoW looks good to me, but not massively so when compared to DAoC. Apart from the funky looking graphics, I love the designe for the Elven starting town, I have not read one thing, one SINGLE thing that screams to me that this is game will somehow :twak: DAoC.

Right now the only thing that WoW has over DAoC is that its new, so it has novelty value. That will drag a lot of players away to try it out and those who have been playing DAoC long enough and don't mind starting the levelling grind again (and the levelling grind is there, I know that much), will stay. I know I will be, just because it looks cool. A lot of other players will go asap so they can be the uber crowd on a WoW server, because they aren't in that crowd here.

If WoW does eventually cause DAoC to die, it will either happen very quickly, because its THAT good that it drags people away en-masse (nothing out there supports that at all) and that includes people who have invested heavil yin DAoC but would give it all up to start over again in another game. Or DAoC will lose a few players, servers will close and toons will be relocated to keep players somehow, but generally DAoC will keep plodding along until eventually the game dies a natural death after a long life, when the player base dwindles after many years and the game no longer becomes financially viable to run.

the thing that WoW got over DAoC is the hope that your char doesn't get nerfed into the ground and then left there without any hope of help. ;)

From your post I'd guess you play in Albion. :D

And here we go again... Nothings going to kill DAOC for a long time.

New games will come and go, as will people playing them.

The nature of MMORPG's is a persistant one, people have invested so much time into their characters and have strong ties to communitys and guilds it will survive.

and TBH why the hell would I want to go through yet another level grind, daoc/eq2/WoW ect... it's all the same with different graphics.

Ur kidding ain't ya? Proberbly one of its best features is the fact that you can quest your way everywhere and get all your xp and armor from it.
If you thiink WoW is for mmorpg noobs then what do you think DAOC is?

A game where you get frustrated unless you also have the overpowered abilities/items your enemy has, which takes ages to get and doesn't involve one bit of fun while getting.

I'm pretty sure WoW will have some bad balance/end game issues as it has not been tested properly. They have just recently raised the level cap to the release level etc. Not all talents are done and what not.

Pretty sure it won't be worth the trouble in the first 6 months or so before the balance matures. Though the freshness of the game may keep you going for that long...

I'm not sure how long I'll play wow, or any mmorpg for that matter. What I do know though, is that currently in wow there's alot of small things that are done much better than any current mmorp out there. Including daoc. It's a beta ofcourse, so alot of things are rough and need working. But the core in wow is so much better than daoc atm.. this is IMHO ofcourse, I'm bored of daoc, yada yada, I'm biased because of that.

But the quests are nice, gives good xp and takes you exploring. And it's not just boring fed-ex missions or kill this or that, you might have to walk around and pick up items that are hidden many places in an area etc.. Steal grapes back to the owner from some thieves, etc etc..

The npc interactment is much better than in daoc, and you also actually get items that are useful, it's just feeling like a thorough and intuitive game even though it's just a beta and I'm at a low level. There's the odd crash now and then though, but bug reports and suggestions are easy to submit.

I just find that there's alot of features and ways things are done in wow that I like.

I'll be off to WoW not saying I won't be back...

...But I hated ToA (Pointless expansion and a worthless timesink imo) and NF looks like the mother of all cock-ups for RvR.

Looking forward to WoW seems like from what I've read levelling will be faster than DaoC (hurrah!) and PvP looks like it's being implemented in a way I like. As long as there's no pointless hours to spend at one spot camping the same damn mobs for arti's/scrolls/must have drops that'll be a 100% improvement right there over the current state of DaoC. ToA's been out 6 months or so now I'm proud to say none of my 6 level 50s or 5 or 6 40+ characters is using any artifacts at all. Nor will they be.

Would have been interesting to the result of NF arriving in the same week as WoW. What would the Albs find to zerg? :D
