We are down to "just" 98 deaths per day now. Most EU countries will outpace us on deaths by the time this is over and all completely avoidable. It's also worth noting that we report deaths of any kind as covid if the person has had covid previously...which is a stupid way of measuring it but there we are.

That isn't gloating, it is simple facts. If the EU countries don't stop fucking about with the vaccine program it is unavoidable. The biggest factor in the fucking about is the EU tried to play billy bigballs on price and dragged it all out and are still dragging it out so they are now months behind. Just get on with it.

I think a lot of it is about giving the pubs the option, it'll have an effect on people whichever way they go.

Personally I think most countries are going to have to work out a much better strategy for vaccine production in the future.

A vaccination isn't a magic bullet and there is always risk.

Also, it keeps the whinging kids out of pubs, win.

I don't think we should give them that option. It's a clear breach of civil liberties, the WHO and most medical professionals are against it (for long-known reasons) and it won't achieve anything as we'll all be vaccinated anyway - so the only risk would be to idiots.

There are still problems for many countries, in essence unless they have their our production capacity they'll always be relying on others and open to any interruptions to getting the vaccines. Also there is a lack proper integration with the requirement to send the vaccine to other countries to do various parts of the production, in these times where time is crucial to provide a faster integration to get the final product completed.

I am wondering how it will work for those of you who like to travel but oppose the vaccine certification.... certainly for the nordics they systems are already in place and the vaccine certificate is estimated to be in place over the summer.

I do not think it will be used here for pubs and restaurants as people are already going to restaurants without the need - I do think it should be used to gain entry to another country.

No different to many other diseases and only an idiot would travel to a country that has a virus (Covid, or any other) without getting vaccinated. In 6 months to a year the UK will be pretty much Covid free at the rate we are going. We will absolutely have to screen people coming in and people going to a country that still has a problem are just asking to catch it and bring it back (potential mutations etc)

A lot of the current vaccinations for foreign travel tend to involve illness that mostly affect the person travelling, they aren't easily transmissible to others afaik.

I've yet to seen an argument from anyone how passports will help do anything but give a false sense of security for the fearful-compliant (especially given wankers are already deliberately subverting the rules - like positive people licking bags of salad in tescos etc).


Edit: I actually think the pub thing is a cowardly red herring from Johnson. Only the most obstinate of landlords are going to require that info (especially as BoJo is foisting responsibility on them) - it'd cause an almighty ruckus if they do it. There'll be fighting over it.

They're saying it'll "nudge" complacent young people into getting jabs. But why the hell should all adults be inconvenienced because a small proportiong of young people are dumb? Especially as tgey'll be the ones carrying the risk.

The traveller is choosing to go to said countries.... the traveller should abide by laws of said countries or not travel... same for businesses to be honest - if a put or restaurant chooses to try to to ensure that all of their clientel is vaccinated that is their choice not yours as the consumer...

Erm, I think the point of the conversation is that the UK might make them mandatory, and rightly so, mainland Europe don't seem that bothered about vaccinations, or they would be getting on with it and using their stockpiles, but they are too busy whinging about their own slow pace, making excuses and making sure people have zero confidence in the vaccination program. The last thing we want is people bringing it over here when we are finally getting on top of it.

I am not sure what the EU's (countries within the EU) end game is at this point, they have vaccines stock piled, they aren't using them...why?

I was disagreeing with this:

The rest of the guff about laws and rules - absolutely, if laws and rules state it then there's fuck all I can do.

But I can disagree with them - in exactly the same way I used to disagree with the laws banning homosexuality, or the rules on blasphemy. Rules and laws can be a crock of shit - so whilst it might be a moot point in terms of practicality - it's absolutely constructive to hold a considered opinion.

If you can't see why they're a "breach of civil liberties" - or even bother to educate yourself on why the WHO and medical professionals are against vaccination passports - that's your loss, not mine.
