You do not get sent for a test in Sweden you order it yourself either by drive in or home test. They want all symptomatic citizens to be tested. I have a sore throat and a slight cough so booked my test yesterday- it will arrive today and the result is normally back tomorrow but sometimes takes 2 days. This will be my second PCR last was in June. If I am positive my husband has to wait 5 days and then order a test (if not symptomatic) if symptoms he should order a test as soon as mine is confirmed.

Even if negative I am not permitted to leave the house until 2 days after symptoms have gone ...
Negative - happy days now I just have to wait for my sore throat and cough to clear up and then I can leave the house again.

What is being seen in Stockholm as the virus is on the increase again is that infections are spreading in the areas which were not really hit last time (ie where I live) - the areas that were hit last time are seeing the infection spread at a much lower rate. The scientists here are hypothosising there is a level of increased immunity whether it is via antibody & or Tcell it is not clear at this time.

Sweden will also go to a regional lockdown solution from Monday - ie the level of lockdown will be recommended by the regions instead of the central health organisation (FHM). It will be interesting to see if anyone changes anything.

My covid test came in Amazon packaging.

Explains it all really.
Whatever you think of them they have a highly efficient delivery infrastructure. So why wouldnt you use it? Or you want to trust the royal mail?

Fuck the Roya l mail, they are like some 70s throwback, everythings at their convenience just like BT used to be in the 80s.

You get a note through the door...cant deliver etc.
The openings hours to pick up your parcel are 7am-1.30pm.
Wtf.
So on the day, because it is the same day, the note appears because he cant be arsed to actually knock or push the bell..you go down at 12 and they say.

Its still on the van.

So next day 8am , big queue and people are giving in their slips and theyve got one guy who's sharing his time with sorting/ having his breakfast and giving out parcels.

Hes just got a big fucking pile and having to ask people how big it is for help.
Everyones pointing out
'How about that one'
'What was your name again?'

A communiat Russian meat shop would be ashamed to be so slow.

Its been ongoing now with our local MP for 10 years to get them to open up at night and theyve just extended it to 3pm.
Thats Labour run Liverpool for you.

You return it via royal mail.

But sure, let's head towards the Amazon-led dystopia.

Jeff Bezos becomes a trillionaire whilst everyone loses their job.

As little time as I have for Labour run councils, I'm not entirely sure how you can lay the blame at their feet for the actions of, what is now, a private company? Having worked with a few delivery companies in the past, the only one I'd use over RM is DPD, simply as you have a better idea of when they are turning up.

Although it could be as I am usually quite pleasant with RM, as they do a decent job, and I know a few of them from golf. I suspect when you turn up they're like "Ah shit, it's him returning another MicroSD card he's fucked - quick pretend to be busy".

What's wrong with working for Amazon instead of Royal Mail? Royal Mail isn't some bastion of socialism, it's a private company like any other, and quite frankly, they're shite.

Because I think it's a wee bit mental that we're giving contracts like that to Amazon, who don't pay the correct amount of tax and aren't even based in the UK - what happened to this post Brexit UK business thing or are we going to accept we're an American colony?

I just find Amazon's business practices of intentionally making losses to wipe out competition very disturbing and as I said before, whilst everyone is losing their jobs Amazon is doing amazing and to top it off our government is also helping them out too.

The dystopian future will be where Amazon will have as much power as countries, where there will be situations like this pandemic in the future where Amazon will demand blank checks from governments because theres no competition.

You also pointed out the major problem - Amazon is so big that they can have an amazing service without caring about its cost, so long as we all blindly accept that service and sink all our money into them we're going down a deep dark hole.

Bezos will be a trillionaire in 20 years time.

That's an increase of 750bn over 20 years.

That isn't a concern?

But royal mail probably dont have the warehouse space to store all the tests. I find amazon very reliable for next day delivery even if i order late in the day. So i would prefer amazon to get it to people. Royal mail one delivery a day only and they have reduced their capability for a while over covid with no saturday deliveries. Also amazon delivers on a sunday

Royal Mail deliver on a Saturday round here? And have done all the way through this madness.

If you do want to use a "great delivery company" that "prides itself on next day", both Royal Mail and DPD will do that with no problem at all. They also do things like, I dunno, delivering it to your door and coming back if you're not in - rather than throwing it over the fence/leaving it in a hedge somewhere. Especially whilst delivering something like pharmaceutical tests - why on earth would you want to do that on the cheap?

DPD even give you an app, so you can track pretty much exactly when they will be turning up - Amazon's delivery times are more like a SAGE Prediction - somewhere between 8am and 8pm usually. If you're lucky they may even narrow it down to a 4 hour window. DPD also use electric vans whilst Amazon are still pissing about with them, if that sort of thing is important to you.

Don't get me wrong Amazon has it's uses - reliable deliveries of pharmaceutical tests are not one of them. Leave that to the experts.

Amazon pay exactly the right amount of tax that they are liable for and the reason they are based in Luxembourg (among loads of other internationals) is; Luxembourg tax files: Juncker ‘solved problems’ for Amazon move

They are also ploughing huge sums into infrastructure so their real profit margin isn't that huge, I mean it's huge just not as huge as it could be.

Frankly I don't have much of a problem with Amazon, most of their stuff is third party sales, either through their warehouse system or directly from the vendor. I have no idea what sort of a cut Amazon take for their services.

I'm under an NDA with Amazon so can't talk about their warehouse and distribution systems too much.

I think its a bit of a Liverpool thing down at the Royal mail sorting office.
They are always the first out on strike and I have it in good authority that when the opening hours were increased to 3pm they went out on strike over that, which lasted one afternoon.

Heres the opening hours, not many office workers can afford to queue at 7am without seriously risking missing a train and if you get a delivery on monday, youd have to wait till saturday.

Just fucking dinosaur in a modern online world.

Just watching itv news, incredible statistic that I havent seen.

60% of covid deaths are disabled people, obviously a lot of people of that age group are likely to be disabled in some way.

Still 60%!
