20 points now, I'm still convinced he'll go because this isn't going away.

Their approval ratings could drop 100% and it wouldn't matter a jot. That's the calculation they're making; massive majority and another four years until an election; this will all blow over. I'm not saying this is right or fair, but as I often point out, the current government (or most British governments in all honesty) does not give a single shit about the electorate until they need you to keep them in power. You are nothing to them but an irritant they have to pretend to listen to now and then.

With all the other shit the great British public will be dealing with by 2024, "Dominic Cummings' Road Trip" will be about number 1000 on people's list of worries.

True, but in the meantime people will listen to the government on health advice a lot less because they think they just talk shit.

Honestly, I don't understand the focus and obsession with this guy "breaking" the rules.

If anything, the lockdown and social distancing is meant to prevent people from getting in contact - if you're sensible and avoid contact, the point is moot.

Also, there's a lot of double standards here, and holier than thou and "he without sin may cast the first stone" type of thing.

This gratuitous demonizing smells like picking on a target just because it's a politician and not a regular Joe.

Remember when Brexit was an issue?

They don't care. Cummings never did in the first place ("Herd Immunity" remember?) Cummings is a disaster capitalist and is probably already framing a narrative for Boris to parrot about "saving the NHS" with foreign investment, to drop when the noise has died down. He has no problem with fronting this out because he wasn't elected by anyone (and he's beyond arrogant), and its increasingly obvious he knows Boris can't sack him; the dirt he has must be spectacular.

This gratuitous demonizing smells like picking on a target just because it's a politician and not a regular Joe.

The fact that he's a "politician" and not a regular Joe is entirely the point! I really don't understand why you think its OK for the people who write the rules to think they're exempt from following them?

To be honest the lack of political accountability endemic in British politics is the real story here; we've allowed in the Alistair Campbells and now Dominic Cummings' of this world into political life with no real debate about their corrosive impact on democracy, we joke about it instead and laugh at Malcolm Tucker's potty mouth, but don't actually say, "Who the fuck are these people? Who do they serve?"

Deliberately.

It's time we as a species were more passionate about the *really* important things... :(

What is funny is many people who seem to love Alistar Campbell recently were people who also loathed him in the past, he is another example of how time and personal views warps previous perceptions.

The last few days have shown no matter what you tell people some people will be determined to ignore it, from repeated warnings about Warning after people pictured walking near cliffs to the RNLI warning there would be no lifeguards and that the seas would be especially dangerous down in the SW Sea deaths prompt calls for lifeguards to return

Campbell is as much of a wanker as Cummings - I do not understand how people can tolerate either... to admire one is as bad as admiring the other :/. As for Cummings he was in a place of responsibility and had avenues to go down to enable his travel but chose to believe that the UK populous should do as he says and not as he does - he should have the decency to go ..

But we already knew he has no decency.

Campbell skated over the whole unelected spin doctors issue in that interview rather than admitting he was the one who made the whole thing mainstream. Rest of the interview was good though.

On a personal level I've always rather liked him because he actually has a personality* and he can take it as well as dish it out, but I've always detested his job as he did it. If a "communications director" simply executed policy set by politicians and civil servants to the best of their ability, I'd have no problem with it, but Campbell drove policy decisions, and that's a line that shouldn't be crossed. And now Cummings is effectively a one man shadow government and operating at a whole other level.

(*I can imagine having a pint with Alistair Campbell, whereas I'd imagine bringing garlic, crucifix and a stake for a social get together with Cummings).

@Jupitus, try this one (edit it into my earlier post and delete this one if you like). XenForo has a problem with autoplaying Reddit videos, in that it does and you can't tell it not to.
