Damp ingress has been so long that there's evidence of rot on one of the rafters and purlins so they'll need to be replaced along with the rest of the roofing work. There's probably about £1500 worth of work to make it watertight.

Nope. We've got the house in Nottingham - but this place is far from long-term liveable in at the moment. There's at least £15k's worth of work to necessary externals and heating systems before we even think of groundworks and renovations (internal and external - I'll post a pic of the porch later), and another £10ks worth of work for septic tank systems. - so £25k is just a starter really.

It's going to be 18 months before it's liveable, presuming I can stay in work for that long.

After that - plan is to move here permanently. Don't know whether we'll sell or rent our house in Nottingham. That needs some refurb too.
You just camping out temporarily atm then?

So Im in the bike shop buying new pads...were all keeping distance and this stupid tattooed scouse twat walks in with a 2000 era dh bike and announces
'hey mate dis is 20 years old fella'

,proceeds to cough his head off , walk right over to me ..like right up to my face ..

.'its on 26s mate..boss innit.'

So I retreat into the showroom, cos he actually sounded like he had TB or something, fucking follows me in.

Well at least I'll have got in now while the ICU beds are free.

Yeah. Got a couple of our camping rollmats for a bed. A table and a monitor for work. Tethering through the phone until I can get proper internet. Have brought bike, camping chairs, keyboard as I have pretentions of picking up piano again.

Intention was to stay a week or so, sort some meetings with architects n builders out but that's unlikely. Now we're stopping as long as we can, given the lockdown.

Still. Shit house, amazing area. The comforts of home aren't worth the tradeoff tbfh.

But why would a person want to leave, in the SW it is more like no one wants people to come down here atm.
To get rid of all those second house owners and holiday weekenders in their camper vans tbh.

Tbh if you was in cornwall i would be kicking yr arse back to nottingham.

theres one a&e in cornwall. For 1/2 million people. So we dont want campers and escapers and guys who might fall off their bike increasing the numbers per bed.

nottingham is way more capable to look after you and the politicos said today driving to second residences was no acceptable. Scotland, wales and cornwall have all said dont do it.

why not go home?

I was waiting for this.

Wby not ask direct questions up-front, stating your thinking clearly instead of ttying to weasel more information that you think will help you before coming in with what you think is a "fait accompli".

The answer is simple: all things being equal it'll be easier for us to self-isolate here, staying away from other humans, minimising the chances of transmission, whilst still being able to get an hours walk in - as Bojo explicitly said is fine - than it would be in a packed conurbatiom where we couldn't guarantee a trip to our back garden wouldn't see our neighbours coughing on us, a ttip out the front door for an hour would guarantee seeing 20 people and one of the infrequent trips to the supermarket would expose us to an environment with a footfall that is numbers of magnitude more than any of the places we can go to here.

Simoly speaking: we're much less likely to get sick and having six acres in a remote hill farming community means we can spend a fair bit of time outside and still never see another soul.

We completed on Friday, before any lockdown announcement, and weighed up the pros and cons and this place easily outweighs Nottingham in terms of chances of contracting the virus. Period.

Even with a leaky roof and no washing machine we could easily spend six months here. We're not stay-indoors needing comfort types. So, after discussing tge realities with my girlfriend, we came to this decision.

You could try to "kick my ass back to Nottingham" and I'd kick you in the balls for trying to make it statistically more likely that I'd get ill at the hands of some moron who doesn't understand social distancing, or some chav kid deliberately coughing on us whilst limiting our ability to safely get out of the living room every day - which is important to us.

So FU buddy. We and, importantly, everone else (including the NHS) are better off if we're here.

If you were that bothered about the NHS then there's personal steps you could have taken years ago to safeguard it, no? But you didn't, so even if you don't accept the above it's hypocritical of you to sit in judgement.

There has been a huge increase in people using the forest, Ive had to move on to the extra remote secret bit.
Thats my last stand....if the dog walkers reach there I'll have to move to Mongolia.

First I wanted to get the facts. Was no point saying about it if you sold yr nottingham house etc.

second if everyone did what you did that had a second home in a sparse populated part of the country they wouldnt be sparse and the infrastructure couldnt cope.

theres been specific clarification that second home owners shouldnt be going to their second homes and if there should return to their primary residence.

i get its good for you at the moment and if it was only you doing it then there wouldnt be an issue.

but it has the be the same rules for everyone no? Not everyone but @Scouse. what i say wont make a difference to what you do. But if you get sick or injured, not just from this virus but anything and require nhs help then you are in the worst place for resource per person or normal population.

and yes your a careful rider and all that. But anything can happen to anyone at any time.

just seems to me that you dont like that rule that has been put into place and have twisted it to fit how you want to be. I assume you havent stockpiled food for 6 months? So you will have to go into the villages and small towns around and you are an extra person that infrastructure has to support.

not gonna say anything more on it. Your choice. But to me it goes against what we have been asked to do. And living in one of those areas with loads of second homes i understand the impact.

There's a rule to not move to holiday homes in a bid to escape the virus. I've not done that - I've bought a new home, I'm registered on the electoral register and this is now where I live.

Sure, I could go back to Nottingham, but I'm not a holidaymaker. I'm where I should be. The house desperately needs renovation work starting to prevent further deterioration and I've started that. I can't do that from Nottingham.

You're just a pissy rural Cornwall resident bitter about the amount of holiday home owners in your area. I'm not on holiday - I'm working from home in the place I've decided to spend the rest of my life.

Swedish Vodka factories are shifting production. Alcohol meant for booze production for the Swedish and American markets are now being used to make disinfectant for the hospitals.

Sweden's biggest chain of Gyms will open again 26th March :

"On March 12, we decided to close all SATS centers for two weeks, as a precautionary measure to help reduce the spread of COVID-19. Since the closure, we have followed the development and been in contact with the Public Health Authority in Sweden to ensure that the authorities are behind any opening from a public health point of view. They are now encouraging sports and exercise to be available to contribute to public health. This as long as it is done in a safe way that contributes to the spread of infection. We can therefore plan for an opening on Thursday, March 26, which was according to our plan"

And @Moriath thinks I should go back to Nottingham when I'm fully-isolated and sitting pretty here ;)
