I thought you'd be glib with global warming instead of addressing why you think it's a problem in face masks.
Well put it this way, SAGE stated back in May that cloth masks were associated with breathing difficulties (and moisture retention, and slurred speech - sound awesome!), so if they aren't retaining some of the CO2 you are breathing out, where do the breathing issues come from then? Filtering oxygen on the way through?

In fact all the way through this guidance from the Government - and the WHO themselves - was that they were only of any use if you were ill, and even then the better advice was to stay at home. So what's changed?
Well of course the WHO updated their guidance that they should be worn everywhere - so there must be some pretty compelling evidence they work?
No. None.

Neither a denial nor any evidence was forthcoming.
So as it goes, you can listen to the medical studies (no effect, possibly harmful), or the non-peer reviewed Sociology studies the Royal Society put together (mostly by the President of the Royal Society's sister) . Considering the burden of proof is immeasurably higher in medical research than it is in the social sciences, I'll go with the medical research, ta.
Cloth masks do nothing for the spread of disease - they are a placebo for the terminally scared. Rather than mandating masks, Boris could have had a much greater effect on people shopping if they'd come clean that the virus isn't as bad as we initially believed.
Which it isn't.
