Does anyone think there's like a distinct lack of black people in the audience?

I mean, I know it's Johannesburg, but even still.

In the UK the black population is roughly 3% - beermat maths suggests that should be roughly the make up of the audience. Unless you want some sort of racist initiative to forcibly up that percentage?

People who want to go and watch it will go and watch it, there is no racism to see here.

SA is one of the most racist places on Earth, both black racist against whites and the other way around, however I think its just affluence that makes the audience there.

Yes, but 79.2% is slightly different to 2%.

I'm not saying forcibly up the percentage, but as ECA said, they invited Amazon customers to travel abroad to see it, which suggest they're going around asking loyal customers who pay a subscription, which perhaps asks the question they're picking on people who have the financial means to support it.

Just smells of rich people doing rich stuff which is out of the reach of poorer people; so they should be invited along for the bits they can get involved in, at least.

You're seriously trying to bring your class warfare nonsense into a TV show about 3 motoring journalists cocking about?

Jebus.

I guess you agree that the Olympics & World Cup in Rio was rightly reserved for non-local Brazilians & foreigners too?

It would be exactly the same here. They are just corporate now.

It is not a racist thing.

Anyway, 3 upper-middleclass chaps whanging cars about...

Will carry on watching it, it doesn't feel better than Top-Gear but its getting there.

It's not quite up there with the best Top Gear episodes (10K Italian Supercars, the various Road trips, race to the Pole etc), but there was about 180 episodes of that, and only 2 of the Grand Tour.

Some great moments so far though, May shooting Hammond for being annoying, then ranting about the Queen, and the whole opening scene last week.

Looking forward to the next one!

It was nice to see a load of white people laughing because the SA president couldn't do his 9X table.

Worked for me.

It's the way Clarkson just shits on sensitivity, we are so accustomed to listening to people upset and offended, i found myself in the scene were he get's shot then burnt..oh fuck, that's a bit..you know..for soldiers and that.
Then I'm, jesus, they would be laughing too.

What the FUCK are you on about
He was on about the very white south african audience - and considering the population of SA is 9.1% white that's a legitimate question.

My missus brought it up. I hadn't noticed it tbh. Why does his question bother you?

I noticed it straight away, but that was probably because I was curious what the mix would be before the show even started.

You could argue it the other way..why are UK adverts full of black/indian/chinese.
Going by numbers they should feature 10% of the time, but mostly outnumber white people.

It is the appallingly right on sixth former question when discussing a bloody car tv program. Look, the black people were all out stealing cars and giving each other AIDS, do you feel better now?

Do you feel better for saying that? You're the one who took issue with it.

Calling it "right-on" when someone points out that a program in a country with 91+% non-whites has such a blatant whitewashed audience is pretty sixth-former ish. The fact that it's a "car program" doesn't exempt Amazon from their responsibilities.

Didn't enjoy episode 2 all that.

Only one laugh from me (when Clarkson lost his trousers). The celebrity dying thing just isn't funny any more. The new track is crap. Looks like something you could make in your back garden in a weekend. The American is a fat arse. Bring back the Stig.

It's as close to Top Gear as you can get but it ain't as good. It just isn't. Sorry.

Did anyone notice Clarkson's shirt wasn't sourced from ethical cotton?

So what if they did a show in Birmingham and it was just blacks and Muslims in the audience then? I'm pretty sure you'd have a problem then and Job would start parading with daily mail headlines.

It's not at all surprising that the audience was mostly white.

I would say a very large proportion of the population are struggling to feed and clothe themselves let alone watch Top Gear.
They may not have even heard of Top Gear or have a TV!

Not much has changed for most of the population since Mandela was released from prison as far as their wealth is concerned.

Mandela didn't love his people..he just hated white people.
That's why as head of the military division of the ANC, he blew up blacks as well.
The idea the black majority would be better off under black rule is a joke, give it 20 years and they'll be a rich white guy in charge.

In the context of a car show, who the fuck cares?!
Again, why does the fact that it's a car show have any influence at all?

Policy is set at the top level and applies to all shows regardless of the content.

@dysfunction is getting it right, but that in itself says a lot...

Fuck off does it. Is there nothing that doesn't need an army of handwringers following it round with a clipboard, making sure it has the correct amount of lesbians on? Perhaps the blacks were busy that day? Or perhaps they have no idea what Top-Gear is? Or perhaps they just don't give a shit? Or perhaps The Grand Tour is all part of a shadowy, racist cabal that is out to get you.

There's a link to an internet forum where ppl can complain about the interior design aesthetics on porn sets!

- Fantastic boobs
- Yeah, but only cos they're a distraction from that awful Laura Ashley bookcase! And did anyone notice they've got Tom Ford's book next to that fake Pietro Alexandre vase!

There are plenty of mainstream South African shows where the audience would be more representative of the ethnography of the country. While you'd have to tie me to a chair and hold my eyelids open with pins, I'm pretty sure that if I watched South African X-Factor the audience would be mostly black. I'm not really buying the "too poor to go" argument. Far more likely is that black audiences are far less exposed to Amazon and its wares; I have little doubt they watched Top Gear (fucking everybody on the planet seems to have watched Top Gear), but there's probably not so many using Amazon Prime.
