Thought I'd finish it off.

It was okay, but Chris Evans is still insufferable.

I really dont likeeddie jordan. And the over dub on the films seems so. Forced to be like it was instead of something new. I had a few smiles in the ZA bit. But the intro on the hospital trolley was worse than a graham norton intro.

It was pretty good, Matt has sealed his place on the show, if only by not being arsed about showing his thinning hair, Evans could leave tomorrow...in fact replace him with Chandler for a laugh.
They've stuck to Clarksons formula, all thats missing obviously is the three old men, I don't know if it can survive without them, its yet to show any kind of replacement, but its still watchable, though I find myself making up cluarkson/may/hammond lines in my head, people are just hating it on principle.

You should, its has a lot less obviously setup situations than the original, those entertained me for their execution and I still meet many people who think they are real...which is slightly worrying.

It's funny. A lot of the people who hate Evans miss Clarkson because they identified with him as "one of them" - when he was anything but - a well educated and privileged man who played the fool, rather than an undereducated ginger guy who's succeeded for himself despite his disadvantages.

To be honest, I know you think you're being properly right on and all that, but you can let the class warrior thing drop occasionally. It does get rather tedious after a while.

Don't have a particular problem with Evans, loved TFI and his radio shows, but the problem I'm having with his new Top Gear, is it just isn't very good :( Well filmed, and the cars are still excellent, but his main problem is he just isn't a motoring journalist, so his reviews are a bit...lacking.

Top Gear hasn't really been about car reviews for a long time, it's been about personality - and Clarkson and his chums had bags and bags of it - and wow-factor.

There are bitter people who haven't even bothered watching the new show because of just what I said above.

But I agree, however - it's never going to be as good as under Clarkson. Certainly it'll take the second season under Evans to make up for a lot of what's wrong with this one - he can change the studio bits but not the recorded stuff. I also happen to agree with you on the car reviews lacking - but they were such a small part of the mix. Time'll tell whether that is a limiting factor - I suspect not if he gets people who know about cars to cover that side for him...

Its his mannerisms.

Clarkson may and Hammond had a bromance where they had a masculine relationship with banter, and it worked, effortlessly.

Evans doesn't know Matt, but he appears to insist on hugging, high fiveing and forcing me to face palm. He's simply the wrong person for the show.

All you need to look at is the star part, that makes me want to cry - getting other guests to tell the camera directly why other guests are there.

Next Sunday's episode should be interesting, as it will be the first to be filmed after the awful feedback he had from the first show - hopefully he calms down a bit and tries to be Chris Evans rather than Clarkson Mk2. If he could stop:

- Shouting (or squeaking)
- The "Some Say" when introducing the Stig and find his own catchphrases.
- Getting the other guests to introduce what the main guest is up to
- Drop the "And on that bombshell" "jokes".

Basically, do his own Top Gear, rather than trying to keep the old one going.

Still, it's better than Fifth Gear so far, and is keeping me moderately entertained until The Grand Tour starts up in Autumn.

That is weird, bit like something from a residential inclusion work course.
Will they be doing the cool wall?
I doubt it, because that will expose the core problem of the new presenters , no one gives a fuck what they think about cars, while Clarkson could seriously effect car sales with a ridiculous put down of even a high end supercar.

If they start the Grand tour with Clarkson driving up with a tank fitted with a bath on top of it, May starts describing why it wont work because of plumbing problems and Hammond pulls that...well go in dickhead..lets see tou take a bath face...I'll be a happy man.

That'd bore the shit out of me. That was the worst of Top Gear under them - just pointlessly wanky dumb TV.

I'd like all the episodes of the Grand Tour to be grand tours - epic journeys against impossible odds and all the stuff that comes out of that...

Sunny Sunday night and people should be in watching the telly? I was out BURN-ing, myself ;)

Antiques roadshow - watched by old people - got live viewing figures. The rest'll come from iplayer.

But yep. I doubt long-term it'll get anywhere near the figures.

I preferred last nights episode over the first one. Chris Evans was less 'Chris Evans-y' and the challenge was decent enough.
I'm sure as they all settle into their roles on the show it'll start flowing more. I'll certainly keep on watching.

Was it an improvement tho?

I've not watched it yet. Will do soon, but I expect it'll get better as they find their feet.

I little. Chris wasnt breating the audience for not clapping or laughing this time. I still dont like the voice overs on the features tho. The test did make me asmile a couple of times

Just watched it with the missus. The studio format needs improvement (the rallycross thing'll get better as you get used to the track and more people have gone over it - just like learning an Quake map, you see more) but the challenge was great. Really enjoyed it.

Certainly seen shitter top gears of recent years.

Will the Amazon 'Top gear' have advert breaks?

Unlikely, modern TV does not require them.

It will be part of Amazon Prime and probably pay per episode too.

I haven't yet watched the new version but does anyone remember the first "new" Top Gear episodes back around 2001?

Compare and contrast. New shows take a while to get going. Even Game of Thrones is markedly different in it's first season compared to what it is now.

No, shows on streaming services don't normally have advert breaks... they do sometimes have adverts before they start though.
