I see nothing wrong with that at all. Celebs have been doing that for decades. The troops, who go where the politicians send them, deserve a pick me up.

I don't see the drama. Bands and comedians go out to entertain the troops all the time. Cheryl Cole just has a better PR agency, evidenced by the fact that we are talking about this on Freddyshouse.

That's what she's doing there. Personally, I think it's bad taste.

But the boys appreciate it, so it's benefitting both of them. I'm not naive enough to think she does it out of the goodness of her heart, but believe me, the squaddies would rather see Cheryl than some fat slag from Coronation Street.

It's a constant stream, there's someone out there most weeks, sportsmen, politicians, actors, pop stars. Some are more publicised than others.

It's more an indictment of the public's interest in the cult of Cheryl, than on that particular celeb. To be honest, she could have got in thepapers this week any number of ways, at least this gave the squaddies something to get excited about.

The politics of the war are pretty irrelevant to both the squaddies and Cheryl, it's odd to confuse the two.

I think I always tend to see the flip side for argument's sake.

On September 11th this year, Facebook was full of "omgz put this as your statuz, I can't believe so many innocent people did died 'cos of nasty men and stuff :, my heart goes out to new york cos I went on holiday there once". I was tempted to update my status to mention the tens of thousand civvies that have died in Iraq since 2003 that noone seems to give a fuck about because it's not sensationalised in the press.
