Character Names

I got a little question for those who might know. First day of the full game in Daoc I managed to get some nice names for my alts. Nice for someone of Albion anyhow.

Arthwyr Lvl 50 paladin now
Parceval, started him as a cleric but he is on hold
and Gawain, and gawain is my problem. I started Gawain out as a fighter but i would like to level him as an infiltrator. Meaning I would have to delete the character and restart him again. Some tests with my 4th alt however learned me that if I delete a character that has been around some time and then try to make a new one using the same name is impossible. The message i get is that the name is a duplicate name. Does anyone have an idea how I can keep the name Gawain for my Rogue ? Help would be much appreciated.

do you get the message that this name is already chosen also after some time passed?
maybe you just have to wait a few minutes /hours /days after deleting your old char.
its possible to pick a name which existed already before, im sure of that. a guildmate of me liked to change his chars like other people their undertrousers
and he always picked the same name...
i will ask him if he got that problem as well and how long he waited maybe after deleting until he made his new char.

Like yourself, when i got my account i "reserved" some of my favorite character names, i wasnt too sure what classes i wanted them to be and just guessed.

I did need to change one of them once, and i just deleted the character and recreated it, using the same name as a different base class... i hadnt logged in as them and played at all, i dont know if that makes a difference?

I restarted my rogue with the same name once... didnt have any problems.

Never had problems. Used my 2 bottom slots to create and play a list of characters to 10 to find out which ones I truly liked besides the pala. Just like you I reserved some names and even if they didnt log on for a while, I could always pick the same name again.

Ehm Arthwyr I did it 3 times before, delete, create and could always choose the same name (after having deleted the one with the same name ofcourse)

I've also done this under the following circumstance:

I had a character who had never logged on.
I logged this character on, took it to 4.5 then realised I'd chosen Mage instead of elementalist (duh).
Deleted character
Recreated character with same name as an elementalist

Worked fine

Ok Ill Cross my fingers then, btw i lost the name Izolde on prydwen just trying it. I did try it on albion earlier with the 4th slot and it just gave me the message it was a duplicate name. Strange, thx for the help though guys.

Probably some one just took your name while you where rerolling char? Gawain and the stuff are quite famous and wide-spread names, so idea about this name can come to some one else's mind... try some unique name next time...

Ive done this a few times, all i ever needed to do was make sure the character was logged in long enough to be saved. eg the little save msg u get in your chat window.

After that it SHOULD be usable after deletion but i know it doesnt always work,

I have the exact same problem, I had a character, deleted it, recreated it ~30 secs later but it said the name was taken.

I lost a 2nd character name this way 2 of my rserved names are now gone. Deleted it, waited 30secs ... 2 mins ... 10 mins ... 30 mins. Logged out back on, tried again same result. Duplicate name message, name gone.

p.s Arthwyr, names like: Master, Trainer, Merchant doesnt work FYI

I did it yesterday again and worked fine over here... (tried deleting your ini file? Maybe that helps dunno..)

i never had a problem with deleting chars and making new with same name
i had a cleric called Cows on excal and i just deleted him to make a scout with the same name, no problem.

I deleted all my chars on Albion/Prydwen and recreated them on Hibernia/Prydwen with the same names without any problems.

I think what probably happened is that someone else picked the name while you were rerolling, they are pretty obvious names for people to choose in relation to the Arthurian legends.

As was suggested before, choose an original name, rather than one from legend and you'll probably have more luck.

Ive not had a problem getting the same name after deleting a character.

best guess is that Gawain is reserved for the event team. being a knight of the round table and all

Character names in this game make me chuckle so much. Like, how many variations of Lancelot, Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas et al.. can there be ffs. Its so amusing the variations people use (most of which look like typos btw)

SWG should be funny, just how many Luke Skywalkers will there be

And back on topic. I have deleted chars and rerolled with the same name minutes later with no problems..repeatedly. Perhaps you just got unlucky. I do recall I died with a gimped char around lvl10, deleted, rerolled with same name and saw my grave later that day. Tried to /pray with no success

Btw best time to delete him is to do it on busy hours, i found out that during the night it wouldn't work properly but during mid-afternoon it did work.

I thought my name would be banned, but aparently it's not the same as a mob due to my surname (or something?!!).

How many people have heard of Vestax, the turntable manufacturers? Hey, roll another fat one (?) for me Vest.

Is anybody REALLY policing the names? hahaa
