Where do you get your character names from?

My names are entirely made up for once my D2 chars, I can't swear on their actual originality (can anyone?) but I honestly didn't rip them off from anything intentinally Good old "fantasy name generator" you have in your head from playing too much RPGs since age of 7.

Kirennia was way back from diablo2 when I rolled assassin. Of course assassins had to be female, silly thing so I made a female name. People over there didn't generally think just cause you were playing a female char you were female irl. So when I came to DAoC I used the same name. I thought maybe some people from diablo 2 I would meet over here and maybe recognise the name so could grp with em etc. Only a couple did so it sort of worked. Of cause the big problem is that kirennia was a female name so I chose a female char to go with it, not realising the difference between game genres with significance in female/male chars. From that day onwards, despite posts on here etc, some people STILL think I'm female irl dang it.

Next MMORPG, probably WoW I'll be calling myself Kirennian (more of a blokes name) and be playing a blok char to stop the pm's of "are you female irl?" etc.

I still get people who I have known for months asking me if I'm really male when it crops up in conversations. I just presume everyone knows by now....most don't. Bit off topic but there ya go.

Khayadarin is also a name I used before. He was my original char, a sorc that reached grand heights of lvl 13 before I gave up and rolled a cleric (mind/matter/body were all similar lvls, I didn't know what to spec back then ) Kirennia being avalonian half reflects that too.......

started of being a hib wanted a celtic name Ah i know FINBAR ...damn taken so FINBAHR came then pissed one night came up with BEHMOTH for a luri was really pissed he ended up a celt warden dunno why

then made char cos i was bored ADDAMS (thought this would have gone) /lastname FAMILY

best ever must be my lastest FOOTBALL a lill luri he might get kicked around a lot being soo small and all my luri's have the irish surname HOOLOIGAN

Samildanach, like alot of Gemmell's chars, is from mythology. Almost all the characters in Knights of Dark Renown were named after the Gods/Goddesses in the Irish Celtic pantheon...hence alot of them feature as npc's in Hibernia.

my mercs name was the first thing that the random generator made, unfortunately it was taken so i added theshort and it worked.

at level 10 i went to emain and was shot by a ranger alot...
so i became daemyrtheshort Hibhater
sadly i was then zerged by mids alot in the 40's and had to be unified in my hatred of the other realsm (and the idiots on albion)
and i forever became the short tempered.

sadly after so long i met the person called Daemyr who was xping a friar right next to me in the barrows, very strange day that one.

Regis is the halfling that causes a vast proportion of chaos in the Drizzt books.

and Swords Nvenom was because it was originally rolled as a sword using envenom sb for thidranki on prydwen.
(this has changed over the course of a year though )

Asq is the game name I've been using for several years, if there's a game I play (be it rpg, straight fopreward roleplaying etc) Asq is the main char.
Draack is old Dutch for Dragon. All english version had been taken so that made me step back to my language.
Meridak popped in my head... until someone reminded me it looks a hell of a lot like the LotR name... there goes my "i'll never use well known char names or names looking like 'em"

Randalf is my IRL name and it was weird enough to use in the game so the question would be: how did my parents get this name and NO it had nothing to do with LOTR !

My chars are nowadays some finnish names, like my necro Aave = Ghost , Prinssi = Prince etc... Dimerian was first of my chars and I have always likes nicks which rhymes someway...would never take nick with 3 letters or something,just would not fit to me

Some of my surnames are from one of the Magic:The Gathering books, called Arena. Fentesk, Bolk and Oor-Tael were the names of the houses that fought each other. I just liked the sound of them
