Tis a nice old game! Aside from all the bugs. Currently playing on UK 105 - DAYZ server 40 player server, hackers are non existent. and it gets decent numbers throughout the day.
Word of warning though, shoot first, deal with your conscious, after you've looted them and bailed the scene.
Once you've got a hatchet, you can right click and harvest wood in a heavily wooded area. Use matches with food and you got a fire, to warm yourself up, or cook meat. In order to get meat you have to kill pigs/cows/rabbits and then gut them using a hunting knife. Fires can be seen from quite a distance, so be careful when you light them if you don't want people creeping up on you.
Tip- Zombies move slower once they enter a building, so if it's getting to hairy for ya, get inside, preferably in a building with a back exit!!! If you're getting tailed in a more open area, use bushes and trees to break line of sight.
Crouch your ass down, it reduces the chances of a zombie spotting you by loads, and make sure you walk slowly.

Earlier Today, I was getting chased of 3 zombies after starting a new game, I just couldn't lose them despite LOS as it was broad daylight. Anywho, after running around for 20 minutes in the rain, my temperature drops and I get a cold, so I'm I'm coughing like fook, along with becoming severely dehydrated. Finding myself in the middle of a woods with no idea where I am, I head of in a random direction, screen is blurring again I assume from my infection and I'm all out of pills. I see a barn in the distance and head to it.
Not hopeful of finding everything I need to survive, but thinking wtf I've survived this long I might as well see it out. I'm fainting every minute or so now, so by the time I get to the barn I'm cabbaged. I find a hatchet *yay* just what I needed, well it turns out I do as my ever increasing coughing fits, alert 2 zombies from outside. I kill the first one with no damage, but the second one breaks my fucking legs. I manage to kill him from on the floor and drag my arse upstairs, which takes a grand total of about 5 minutes, as my blood is now down to 700ish and I'm literally fainting every 6 seconds. I get to the top of the barn to find a Jerry can *wohoo*, at which point I decide to crawl off the edge and end it all right there and then.

If you've stolen from my ammo tent i will murder you in new an interesting ways...like running you over with a bike!I just found an offroad car so decided to randomly drive around the woods/mountain sidesfound 3 tents and 2 helicopter crash sites lol xD ninja'd some stuff out of the tents, nfi who they belonged to

only found the 2 tents because I crashed into a tree next to one lol the third tent I found near a crash site, nicked an AKM + 4 magazines from the 2 tents tho edit: my offroader ran out of fuel tho
couldnt find any jerry cans.. found a bike now tho and i'm riding through the country side listening toor I was until I maximized it and found myself dead oO dafuq lol

I'm in deep shit. got loads of water, but nearly dead with about 1000 blood left, need food, got all the gear to hunt / cook animals, but can't find any, been looking for about 30 mins now. Nearly dead, found a helicopter crash site. I've got a blood bag too. In roughly 7-4 7-5, south of the airfield. near Rogovo I think. Anyone know the site?

Fucking random bugs. Managed to fix my broken leg out and get myself sorted out. An hour later it happens again. Only this time, after bandaging, my broken leg is cured and I seem to have swapped gear with someone else. I now have a different sniper rifle, all the basics (including GPS and tool box) but I am on red food/water and have lost all the food and water I had. I just hope I can make it somewhere to get some supplies.
I will leave that little pleasure for tomorrow I think. My guy is 5 days old now with nearly 150 zombie kills and 6 player kills...will be pissed off if it all goes wrong due a bug.
