didnt realise chemistry was going to have maths this complicated :(

Hey.
So:

-logKa=2.91
logKa=-2.91 (multiply both sides by -1)

(then take ten to the power of each side)

Ka=10^-2.91=0.00123.....

Hope that helps.

(Assuming your log is to the base 10. If you're not sure, then it'll be 10)

I suspect it'll be base 10. Most of the calculations we do in Biochemistry are log base 10, and this is a very similar case. But it could be base e I guess.

Catsby thought the legend for Log base e was: Ln.

However, Catsby will use this oportunity to say Natural Log.

Catsby is correct. But Natural Log is so much more erotic.

I'm glad I paid no attention in advanced mathematics.

I got as far as inverse hyperbolic functions, and had a hyberbolic function of the brain.

I really didn't see the point. Not to belittle those who like Maths, but it was a massive waste of time for me, just some stupid requirement to pass my BTEC.

Catsby agrees, they should hand out BTECs to everyone.

I'll have you know that once I too could manage vastly complex sums! sadly, due to a combination of beer and "never ever using this ability in real life situations" I've forgotten most of it. I've also forgotten how to write it seems :/ my excuse is that I've been using computers and keyboards since I was 8 :( please sir, not the cane!!

Yeah, what he said. Couldn't do a simultaneous linear equation to save my life now. Something to do with brackets rings a bell.

aye, I feel your pain :) still, I'm a bit miffed that the things I worked so hard on to get my head around are also the first to drain away.

Being an electical/electronic engineer I use advanced maths frequently. Just not at the minute as I am looking for another job.

I did this for "O" level, this was before GCSE exams existed, or whatever the latest equivalent is. So I was 15/16 at the time. As a result I can't remember any of it............ what was I saying?

makes sense to me
