In CM9, is the widget list compressed?

ie
Long press
Select widgets
Shortened list comes up with only one instance of each widget
Select widget and a second widget list is displayed with the sizes of that widget

No it's on the end of the app menu, just push the applications button and keep scrolling right and you are presented with pages (and nice thumbnails) of your widgets.

ICS has an annoying bug where if you're listening to music at one volume and you get a notification at a different volume, the sound jumps up with it

You on ICS yet?

Not yet

Another interesting thing is that many apps use slightly more RAM in ICS. For example, the web browser is quite intensive, and our measurements indicate that it uses 20-30MB more in ICS compared to Gingerbread. All in all, there are a lot of changes that together result in greater RAM requirement.... when running a heavy game that uses all available RAM, the activity manager will be forced to kill all processes running in the background. This might include vital functions like the dialler and even the Home screen application. When you exit your game, there is a risk that the phone is perceived as slow, since the Home screen app will have to be restarted, just like every other activity you access afterwards.

Another change in ICS compared to Gingerbread is that Google has moved a lot of the SQL handling from the native to the Java layer. In our internal studies, we have seen that read and write operations to the SQL database takes longer time, which slows down the apps. Many applications perform a lot of SQL operations when started, which greatly impacts the start-up time... This can result in a user experience that is perceived as slower and less stable, due to longer response times and increased ANRs.

When we performed internal tests on our applications, we saw that the Settings app consumed 1-2MB more RAM, and actually took longer time to start with HW acceleration, compared to without. Once the app is running, the UI is HW accelerated, but unless the app performs advanced graphics, the user will not see the difference. Another effect of the hardware acceleration is that it can make the battery drain faster in some cases. An example of this is video playback, where the hardware acceleration requires every video frame to be run through the GPU, thus making the system use more power than it would have without HW acceleration.

You seem desperate to find reasons not to upgrade. Stick with Gingerbread if that's what you want...

I've had ICS on there for a good few days and I've not noticed a difference in battery life. It went down too fast for my liking before and it goes down too fast for my liking now.

I have an iPhone 4S which I never thought I would say. It's pretty fucking awesome which is a shock!

iTunes was a pain at first. Only issue is not being able to quickly transfer data such as tv shows from pc to device.

Was wary about sound quality but once I popped my Sennheisers in its great.

Oh keyboard fucking rapes the old htc desire I had (yes yes that's an old handset) even without using something like swype.

I don't play games on phones other than solitaire when I'm waiting for lotus notes to open lol so battery is always fine for me.

One of the things that really puts me off the iphone is the amount of unused ugly plastic around the screen. Maybe iphone 6 will be lightweight, thin & edge-to-edge screen?

Anyone able to recommend any headphones I can use with my android that have a skip-track button built on that I can use while the phone is locked in my pocket?

Have you checked the accessory sites for your phone? You'd probably be looking at either a specific set to go with your phone...or (and I don't know if it exists), a separate switcher for your phone which has a jack socket that you can then plug your phones of choice in.

what fone u got?

Sky need to pull their finger out and support ICS, haven't been able to use SkyGo since the upgrade. They're very slow.

Keep an eye on Logitech they have the ultimate ears range with track skip and they often have damaged box offers.

Has anyone had any issues with ICS when viewing players which use (I assume?) Flash and what not?

I have about 3-4 different browser apps on my phone, ranging from default, Firefox, Chrome and Dolphin. None of which seem to support flash. Youtube seems fine, but anything else it says a variant of "Need to install plugin / No plugin available".

Confusing
