Just curious. If one was to start out from scratch in a new realm today, which one would be the better, and why?

Depends what you mean with better. If you want to be able to kill stuff in RvR without outnumbering them go Hibernia.

If you want a hard time trying to dodge insta mezzes and trying to get your own off on that pesky insta-***** healer/bard, go Albion :)

Thats probably the biggest difference between the 3 realms - Insta CC.

I would say hib, much more fun classes to play...

mentalist is an amazing class.... PoT, Heals, HoT, DoT (+ AoE DoT), DD (+ AoE DD), mez AND charming (all of these are speccable) all available makes a very fun class to play, plus PoT, HoT and DoTs are all in the same spec line.. Ohhh and baseline stun to boot

Albs get more classes but I don't think any class in the game has as many options as a mentalist.

It doesn't matter which realm has the best classes, it's the people behind them who count.

To have fun, you want the realm with the lowest asshole content. The general opinion is, Hibernians aren't too bad... although there're two sides to every story and without having played in hib, I cannot say myself.

Albion isn't a complete disgrace, but it's not far off.

You only need to compare the Hib/Alb forums here, and see which has more flames and less whiners.

And I'll laugh the day we hear of a 'cowardly' Nightshade, camping greyscons at the mid merchants :p

Big difference is, Generic, that hibernia population is soooo low, that their number of moprons will look small. %-wise, its probably about the same as albion.
again, matter of oppinion. your mopron list might differ hugely from mine for example

This is true... I might just play on Hibernia some day to see if it's any better. As I mentioned above, it's impossible to say without having played there, so I use the forums as a rough estimate ;)

I know why you posted this.

After you left mids collaborated and cleared the albs. Someone made a point that helping each other doesnt have to be looked on as a zerg and is needed on occasions like that.

After the trouble was cleared our groups went separate ways again. I think the cg is not to tell everyone where to go but to identify problem spots and get enough numbers to deal with it without having 30 mids after 1 fg who was stopping 1 person getting through at the mmg.

As this was 2fg stopping each group that tried to do it themselves then it was ok to ask for help. I oculd feel your frustration but if you had worded it differently I think you may have got the help you were asking for. You never actually asked. Just kept pointing out we werent working together. Next time politely take the initiative I think you would have been surprised by the co-operation.

Not a flame just someone as eager to get through as you were viewpoint.

Everyone I have met so far that made a fresh start on Hibernia said the people are much more friendly and help you out when you need anything. I never got an alb char higher than level 9 but trust me - alot of people think Hibernia is the friendlier realm.

I recommend taking a look at the character builder ( http://daoc.catacombs.com/cbuilder15.cfm ) to see if there is a class that suits you in Albion/Hibernia.

Yeah, just trying to make up my mind on what to do. Wether I should move to Hib or Alb on Prydwen, or just move to Excal and play my Hib chars there full time.

Tz. Hib people are far more friendly in PvE than the Albs/Mids I have met. They don't have the Roleplaying guilds like Albion, but you'll find really helpful people in Hib.

People often just hand out various staves, items, etc to lowbies. They really are cool people.

RvR-wise though. They're only getting to learn Zerging now, so you'll probably get pretty frustrated in Emain. HDS seem to be the main RvR leaders, from what I've seen. There are 2? main alliances and they arrange DF hunts regularly.

It also comes down to what you want to play. Tired of melee? Try a mentalist; Iunzana, an ex mid as well, took down a group of 6 mids solo, using a frost colt and her various spells.

If you come to Hib, send me a PM, and I'll help sort you out. ;) In the end, do what makes you enjoy the game.

Nah,almost every guild in hibernia rvr`s so i would not name any "Main RvR" guilds.Homever if we start name the "rvr-guilds" would that be Soul Pact? :D

If you need bit advices or starting cash feel free to send me :)

Down, I ain't seen Soul Pact doing much out there. 90% of the keeps I've seen taken in the last week were done by HDS.

Just an observation.

Hib - generally better classes ( better in terms of assembling 1 fg) - solid support classes (save for bards - they are boring as hell to level and hard to play properly in rvr) and damage dealers with a lot of utility. So if you're after 1 fg vs 2 fgs and winning easily kind of fights go hib.
Mid - generally well rounded groups but nothing outstanding like in hibernia. Something in median between hib and alb.
Alb - boring support and damage dealers with little utility. Basically the realm you wish to play if you like to overcome the odds against you.
That's at least on 1.52-58 patches.
So if you want to change difficulty of game, choose -
Newbie - Hibernia
Regular - Midgard
Hard - Albion ;)

You could aswell chance Hibernia and albion place :) we still have not horrible big numbers and your caster squads seems to kill us 95% of the time(dont understand why tho) :)

ROFL

Playing in Hibernia is far from easy. We're always outnumbered in RvR and so everyone has to play as a team, everyone has to understand what their class can and can't do and play to the best of their abilities. We can't rely on just running around mob handed and outzerging the opposition (though yes this does happen now and again). This makes Hibernia a tough realm to play, because we can't afford to be running around with a group half full of AFKers because we don't have the numbers to compensate. Reason 1FG of Hibs can often beat 2FG of Albs or Mids is not because of better classes, but because of tightly knit, focused teams - this is one benefit of a smaller realm, you get to know peoples playstyles.

I'm not saying that Hibs are better players than Mids or Albs, but I am saying Hibs tend to have to be more focused and need to operate more as a team, because of usually being outnumbered and because Hib classes are geared towards teamwork. When Hibs come up against a group of Albs or Mids who are equally focused and tight knit (and there seems to be several groups who play together regularly) then usually it is a very close run thing with anyone likely to emerge the victor given roughly equal odds.

Well, if you think that balanced hib group has hard time against 2 fgs of opposition you have to learn much ;) Ask Qte from hib/exc for example - he can give you some pointers :)

PS. Tightly focused etc. - utter bullshit. Same as saying - all skilled players are on hib, and alb/mid is composed of morons.
