Actually, I think Bodhi is trolling now - he's gone beyond the realm of meaningful discussion and right over to "being a wanker to start a fight". Oh, if only the internet really was like a pub... ;)

I'm not starting a fight.

I'm just saying.

Dance music is shit.

I like corstans mixes, not his remix's of shit like the william orbit tune ;)

I have the energy 2k mix by tiesto aswell Nick :) It's probably the most 'banging' trance set I have! Love it still :)

Goldenscan - Sunrise: have you got the tiesto mix? That is one major trippy tune when played really loud! Love it to bits :)

Coupla other new tunez I like:

Nevada - Touched by the Hand
Ratty - Sunrise (not that new but fuckin cool none the less)
Bob Sinclair - I feel for you (not trance but funky as a chunky monkey)
Madelyne - Deeper Love
Jakatta - American Booty
Photek - Mine to give
Planet Funk - Chase the Sun
Angelic - Can't keep me silent

add those to ur playlist ;)

Nice choice, TUG. Anyone heard the Trance mix of "Stan" yet? Pretty cool but the hook changes too much, IMO.

Best Dance tune of all time? Mine's NRG52: 0WNz j00!

Xenon, Yes i have it, and I am not impressed. The backing track is good on its own.. but i cant help but feel that someone just got that bit, and dido's lyrics cut straight from Stan, and slapped higgeldy piggeldy on top. Doesn't work. I'm currently working on a mix of of the same lyrical content, sampling from Dido - Thank you (the Stan vocals), Rank 1 - Airwave and William Orbit/Ferry Corsten - Barbers Adagio. Will letya know when i've done :)

Aye that tune is by the Airheads and is called Stanley :)

It's alrite... typical simple trancey tune. Probs go down ok in a club :)

Nick, u make yo own choons then? They any good? I'll have to pop on IRC one day!

You guys still go to the subspace channel? Infact, is subspace still running? lol it's been a while... :D

lollolo - flame wars are so much fun!

Personally, i think dance/trance etc is alright, but i prefer to listen to hip-hop (again like trance, underground stuff - not ya jay-z's and ya puffys)

bodhi - just leave people and their opinions alone.
If ya were picking on metal/indie though, i'd probably join ya :p

anyway, im off to be violent after listening to wu-tang....

hip-hop is the only genre of music more devoid of originality than dance. I have come up with a winning formula to produce a cracking hip-hop vid.

1) Start off with expensive car. Any ferrari will do. This car will not be driven. It will be parked.

2) Insert 20 generic "beatiful women".

3) Insert rapper wearing a jacket with no shirt, flashing his chest off as much as possible.

4) Insert hip-hop tune, cunningly similar to the last tune faetured on MTV Base.

et voila. Wait for Westwood to declare "This shit is whack" and wait for the rest of radio 1 to play endlessly. Get shocked when after all the airplay, your single shifts three copies. This is because as dumb as the british public are, they realise hip-hop is shit.

Mr Coe is indeed a great a DJ, and a personal fave especially when he mixes it up with Diggers. Other personal faves are;

Jacques Lu Cont; I have never had a bad night when he's playing, mainly due to his enthusiasm, when he DJs you can see he absolutly loves the music.

A-Trax; Without a shadow of a doubt the best turntabalist I have ever seen.

Dj Zinc; 'cause break beats the future don't cha know

That's about it for now, as I must do some work, bah

Bohdi, with your point about lack of originality, you missed out UK garage :)
Serious mistake (just listen to the new "Oxide" tune - if you can bear it)
Also, seeing you are obviously not into Dance Music, you cant really say it is all devoid of originality, as there are new styles coming onto the underground all the time. Commercial Dance though? Yeah, gotta agree. Stuff like the latest York & Daft Punk singles shouldn't have happened.

ANYWAYS, back to the point, my top DJ's are:-

Guy Ordanal
Robbie Nelson
Lange
Jon Digweed (better than sasha IMO)
Judge Jules (sheer entertainment value :) )

I listen to some UK garage... phat basslines :D Turn up da subw00fa'z. The underground stuff is ok as it goes if you like funky drum patters and decent basslines...

deep and bouncy (and some soulful tunez) = good
cheese like oxide and neutrino = not quite so good :)

Tug, if you like deep bass, check out the newer Breakbeat Garage stuff being put out by the D&B DJs like Hype and Zinc, 138 Trek Vocal Mix and a lot of Zed Bias' remixes, also, if you are near London, get down to the Gaas club on the last thursday of every month for a no attitude garage night with the deepest chunkiest cut up basslines

I'll just add my tuppence worth and then watch everybody get sick of posting as soon as I open my mouth (that's what normally happens).

I am a pro DJ (shock, horror) and have been for the last 3 and 1/2 years. OK, so where I play ain't exactly Ibiza but hey, its fun. I have played all sorts of dance music (and some indie stuff) and the trouble I find with the "dance scene" is that all the separate elements of it keep slagging each other off (this does not include Bohdi: he is just a scrotum with boils on it).
The trance heads get bad mouthed by the "real" house heads, the 2 step crew have a go at the hard houser's, DJ X is better than DJ Y and so on.
One day peeps might actually be able to just enjoy the variety of dance styles for what they are: fun. Pure and simple.
I don't particularly like UK Garage, but I bet that if I was in a club with lots of dancing nutters and the DJ was playing UK Garage, I would be up for it like anyone else. After all, the whole thing is supposed to be about open minds innit?
This post is not to anyone on this forum, its just my opinion of the dance scene in general, thats all.

For the record I like Hard House; Trance (both the epic and bangin' stuff); Drum & Bass; Techno (well, some of it); pumpin' House; Prodigy; Blink 182 and Beethoven.
I can live with UK / 2 step coz some of the tunes have PHATT B-lines :)
Favourite track ever is Pump Panel's remix of New Order "Confusion".
Favourite DJ ever is....erm....a bloke from Nottingham called Fergus, who used to DJ at the Pleasuredome in Skegness circa 1994 - 1996 (when I was into Hardcore!!). His mixing was mediocre on a good day, but the choonz were amazing (hard and trancey and fecking fast).

Erm..thats it. Sorry if I've bored you.

Luv and hugz

PS: Where's a good night out these days? I have no idea coz I'm DJ'ing every weekend.

FERGUS! Oh yes I remember that guy from when I was like 14 or so! lol I was into happy hardcore too... still have an old tape pack with a mix from him in it, @ vibealite if U remember it :)

I am like you though, I like all different styles of dance music. I try not to slag music off either, apart from westlife and anything similar cuz it's basically takin' the piss a bit how they make so much dosh for so little intelligence.

Oh and scoob, hehe hype and his scratchin' skills... still have a fair few classic D'n'B CD's/tapes from him :)

Last D'n'B CD I brought was a month back: Movement - Perpetual Drum and Bass Motion (wooo) mixed by Ray Keith and Bryan Gee

Basslines aplenty :)

Hype scratching up a dirty 2 step bassline is something to be believed, plus they are bringing back 4 to the floor beats now and then, which is very odd when you have been used to pure 2 step.

Staz, DJ'd anywhere around London? Chances are I've played there as well, I'm semi pro (ie I don't make me money out doing it) and have played at most of the 2 step nights around London, along with a lot of the older D&B nights circa '95 and '96 (WARHEAD!!!!!!!!)

I'd have to agree tho about not insulting other elements of dance music, sure, I think that Dave Pearce is a Cheesy Nik Nak with a cap on, but if people enjoy listening to what he plays, fairy muff, I'm into the deeper darker stuff, as well as some of the uplifting trance and the whole dying big beat scene, and even ambient/chill out now and then, my fav DJing experience was as a resident at a Student Union a while back, simply because I was allowed to play a wide spectrum of genres, I could mix from a D&B record into a House tune without getting dirty looks from the crowd, plus, you don't get attitude there. Ok enough boredom, if peeps are looking for tunes, gimme a bell on ICQ, I have a hefty old vinyl collection (about 11K) so can mp3 most things if peeps are looking for 'em

Hype.....hmmmm.... I remember the first time I heard him play at the 'Dome (as we called it in Skeggy). He was feckin amazing. The choonz were good but I was impressed most by the scratching and mashing up of different records. Back then it was breakbeat he was playing, as was everyone else (I'm talking mid '93), not a kick drum in sight. I got his early stuff on Suburban Base (Shot in the Dark, Trooper etc) but I ain't heard much of his newer stuff.

I remember old Vibealite TUG, bloody hell, Venue 44 in Mansfield :) Mad nights they were. Did you ever go to a 'Dome night?? Fergus was the DJ who's choice of music connected with me, so I will always remember him as being my favourite DJ. Remember MC Natz?
"riggydiggydig-dig raggamuffin"

ahem.
I'm showing my age now.

I ain't DJ'ed in London yet Scoob, I'm not that famous (yet) ;) In fact I havn't made it out of Lincolnshire yet :( I got a residency at a local pub/club in Skeg (Marine Boathouse). I don't get to experiment musically as much as I would like but by and large its a good laugh and the wimmin are nice :) I used to do a small student gig in Boston (cess pit of Lincolnshire) and I agree with what you say about being able to play more varied stuff at those gigs. I did a DJ comp in Sleaford (?) once but came second to the guy who's mum and dad owned the club.
Funny that innit.
Apart from that, I've just been doing the clubs in Skeg (of which there are 4)

Are we playing anywhere on NYE?

PS: I don't rate Dave Pearce either but he does a good job of bringing dance music to the mass audience which is good thing. On another note, I DJ'ed along side him at a gig he did after a RoadShow in Skeggy. He was OK but a tad egotistic.

Vibealite :D I woz a bit too young to go anywhere like that back then... it was all the rage @ school tho was happy hardcore! There were like 10 of us all ganged together @ lunchtime with walkmans, passing tapes around... 'check this fuckin tune out man!'

Jeez those days were mint :) Sitting in french reciteing MC's lines and stuff... lol I wish I was 14 again :)

I reckon the closest I am likely to get to a hardcore nite these days is when the local club DJ bangs some happeh hardcore on to wear the croud out before buggering off home!

As for Happy Hardcore, there's still the odd old school night, 'specially down Camden Palace every few months.

Camden Palace does have a few Garage nights (about 2 a month) normally on a Sunday or an odd night, but they also do old school D&B and Happy Hardcore nights

I remember Club Kinetic, thats where Brisk used to play. I had left school by the time I started going to the rave's but it kind of took over my life. Every bloody tape I had was a bootleg hardcore tape, taped off a mates, mates, brothers original copy. Or something like that.

I did Diehard in Leicester once too. That was 300 ravers going ballistic in a beer cellar. Entertaining.

I know what you mean about the DJ doing the Hardcore thing at the end of the night. I used to do that all the time, but was banned coz all the punters invadaded the dancefloor and the bar takings took a nose dive for half an hour. But then after I finished my set, everyone legged it back to the bar coz they were knackered (i sometimes played real hard techno just to piss the boss off :) )

I got me the downstairs gig at the Boathouse (my residency gig) in Skeggy, so that should be fun. Everyone goes out in fancy dress in Skeg on NYE. Quite funny watching Robin Hood or Snow White going mental onthe dance floor.

I will be in my Keith Flint (Prodigy) get up as per usual.

Great, super, smashing.

Mine has to be at cream in 95/96 dj sneak/doc martin in main room, oakie in the backroom AND THE GOD CARL COX in the courtyard, Trevor Rockliffe was on 1st playing techno, when carl cox came on the crowd tore the fuckin roof off.
Funny, cos i wasn't into techno, more progressive house (sasha, digweed etc)
Was lookin for some action after seein sneak saw oakie wasn't impressed and sumbled across coxy(thank god)
Absolutely unbelievable, smashed the place up he did and i hadn't heard 3/4 of the music he played.
even my bird was impressed who used to get bored stiff at clubs i have djed at. (she even used to get free ale)

respect to cox rightful heir to the british throne

I'd rather not. I'd rather you died of AIDS. Hip-Hop is shite. It makes dance music sound original and bearable. End of discussion.
