It seems that every time someone posts a thread about something that they like someone else comes in a calls them a twat. I think if it was up to some people here we would be living in something akin to Nazi Germany or the old USSR. Some people have to realise that we are entitled to like what we want, and if they don't like it then fine, but that does not mean that those that do are twats. Constructive comments might be welcomed, so that a discussion could ensue, instead of yet another fucking flame war.

This isnt meant as a personal flame on anyone (frankie aint said anything in this thread yet :) ), but dance music is the worst type of "music" ever. I have never seen any genre of music so devoid of any originality. Can't think up a new song? Never mind we'll just remix and old one. Set off a car alarm or two, add that to the mix, add a casio watch alarm or 2 and hey presto, instant dance floor filler.
Or should you want to make an instant chart topper, find a generic beat, put an obscure doddle on a piano over the top, find the most mind numbingly dull vocal on the planet (Til I come...I mean ffs, how shite) and waheey, you have a number 1.

This music has loads of followers, takes more patiance than other music ( OASIS is slightly piss to play ) and has real emmotion, have you ever heard proper deep trance ?, nope thought not, @ club they dont tend to play the shitty chart topper dance, they go for deep house and trance. just like to emphazsize this point, BOD ya a complete tosser. Because, we had a thread where everyone started flaming forms of dance music before and after a while it got very boring.

People have 'choices' - just let those who choose to listen to styles of dance music get on with it! We don't flame against people who listen to indie or anything because WE DON'T CARE what others listen to!

Well, I the way I see it is that all genres are devoid of originality. I'll use your own formula to demonstrate. Look at [guitar bands]. Can't think up a new song? I'm not accusing all guitar pop/rock of being shit, I'm saying that you can pick on any genre and see its roots in every chord, riff, bleep whatever. It's the problem with music. All things happen in cycles, and sadly in the case of pop music the cycle is only about a week long. The word "originality" can hardly be applied to anything anymore. To paraphrase (OMG HE SAID A POSH WORD ON A MESSAGE BOARD) Thom Yorke, everything you do has already been done and had the piss taken out of it a thousand times.

Annoying, basic chart Dance is popular because it lives up to the genre name: people do like to dance to it. For example, I think DJ Jean's "The Launch" is the most worthless piece of shite ever released, but I still like dancing to it. As a piece of music, it's shockingly cynical, and I agree that in the wrong context (Top of The Pops) it's abominable. But in the right environment with the right mood and a good mix, it's brilliant.

Bodhi, you know as well as I do that anyone who says "all of [GenreX] is shite" is lying through their teeth. There are gems in all genres. Even Country and Western. (Probably.)

Look, it's very easy to have debate without it being a flame war. LOOK at Bodhi's post. There is a rational argument there that can be argued for/against. It does not contain any insults towards any individual. It doesn't even contain insults directed at clubbers in general. This need not be a flame war.

Oh dear. I hate to bring up this old chestnut lads, but this is a PUBLIC forum, hence anyone may post what they want. I was not flaming anyone I was stating an opinion. For instance in my opinion frankie is a moron with a negligible grasp of english, but not everyone may share that (most people would).

Yes takes quite a lot to press a couple of buttons and play a record doesnt it. "Emmotion" (I think youll find thats emotion btw)? I've seen more emotion in a Steven Seagal film.

ok, heres all the things wrong with what you have just said

1. have you ever played a piece of decent trance, and looked at a piece of complicated synth hardware and figured out what would of gone in to make that piece of trance ? If you had, then you would realise it takes a lot more work and effort to do that, than make up a guitar solo with a whole 5 chords.

2. Still doesnt get away from the fact that you came into a clubber thread, that were not talking about what music is bad etc, you just came in and said outright that its crap, which is immature, and im guessing ya a 12 yr old kid, who likes to think he's big, whilst trying on his mums stockings ?

hmm, cant think of much more, but you saying that im a thich moron etc is a bit silly, all you have seen is me make a load of toss sentances up using about ooh, 1500 words at most, and from that you can say im a thick moron. Must be very cleaver.

Oh m8, you are so mislead if you think it's easy to make some of this 'gay' dance music.

I listen to 'underground' music - essentially non comercial stuff. It seems you are basing your analysis on what you may have heard in the charts that someone has classed as trance for example. This however, is totally off par with what 'real' trance is like.

Trust me, some artists put a LOT of talent into making their music - look at chicane. You here commercial remixes on the radio, this is just to sell the records and make some money. But, listen to their album/watch them live and the music is in a whole different ball park. Wow, they can do some excellent tricks with synthesisers, acoustic instruments, talented musicians help them to perform live and it's a very intelligent show indeed.

There are some very talented dance artists out there. There are also LOTS of shambles artists who don't care about going commercialised and branding their music to one specific type. These people want money, they don't respect the scene which is underground for a reason - we don't *need* to be commercialised, we just want to make music for the people that is of quality and is done by talented people.

Facts - always a good thing.

I bet you ain't talented enough to write any form of music anyway.

i have played the guitar, and consider myself to be able to play such piss easy things as oasis and stuff, and i have tried to have a muck about with the synth, but to make anything sound decent you would need to have something like 16 or more "track" merged into one, and that is hard. It takes talent, if you go listen to some of the stuff thats out there, you might understand, but we all know ya just saying its gay caus you heard ATB on the radio.
