I have a simple answer, everyone to be fitted with a controlling brain chip and if you try to mess with it, you are knocked out for a month.
Actually the ONLY way to stop these things.

Do you not watch the news? There are plenty of shootings in the UK as well, which seems unlikely as we dont have any guns ... ;)

I didn't say there was no gun crime did I? Proportionately, it's a LOT less than in the US. On the rise, sure, but still not even close to how bad it is in the states.

Not wishing to be argumentative, but do you actually have figures for that? Also, could you also look at the amount of house break-ins and muggings that are deterred by gun ownership in the US compared to the amount of those crimes we have here in GB?

You may be suprised!

Throd, that ain't going to fly; you're more than five times more likely to be victim of a violent crime in North America than the EU, and about 60% of all violent crime in North America is gun-related. America is more violent than Europe full stop, and a few armed robberies and the odd kid getting stabbed in Lewisham doesn't alter that.

The overall figure is misleading, while the big cities have a terrible amount there are huge swathes of the US that has a crime rate resembling rural england in the 50's.
That's why I am so shocked by Denver, it's just so beautiful and safe, a place were you get called sir in garages and shops and everyone has time for for everyone else.
Something the UK has long lost.

If everyone in that cinema had been armed (not the kids obviously) would he have killed as many?

Or would more have been killed in the dark with everyone shooting everyone else.

I remember a film (yes i know a film) a while ago where there is some sort of shoot out between two gangs, one of the gangs girls is left alive, shes trying to leave with a gun, she comes across someone who she thinks is dead, as she crosses over him he opens his eyes and says "save me" she jumps and shoots him...i laughed...but i'm fairly sure its exactly what would happen.

America have 1-3 of these kind of shootings every year, but is it a wonder when they all have access to military grade assault rifles? go on youtube and see how many of them love their M16/M4 variants and how many of them video their kids taking them apart and putting them back together, i've seen videos of kids as young as 4 being taught how to handle one of these.

It's only a matter of time before one of these kids grows a little older and a switch flips in their head and they fancy shooting people up for no reason at all.

I agree with this, as I'm sure you expect me too.

True but I have realised the futility of banning things based on the fact that some people will abuse them.

Down that path we end up with no freedoms.

I agree. Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

The figures aren't remotely "misleading". I have one word for you, "Columbine" (just down the road from Denver) and fuck off with your nonsense about rural America being some idyll out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

Gun discussions go nowhere for every nutter that kills a bunch of people there are thousands who do not. Why is the majority punished for a very small minority. Yes it is shocking that these people died because of that nut job but saying taking guns away is not an answer better gun control might be. Mental checks for people who what to own guns on a regular basis might be an idea but as show here in the UK the Black Market will fill the void left by legitimate guns. The word on the "Street" is that the guy that shot the Police Office in Clacton did it with a gun from the Falklands.

the first thing I noticed about all this were babies and a 6 year old listed amongst the wounded as well.

The showing was at midnight?

It's a fatuous argument. Yes, bad people can access guns in the UK but it's infinitely harder than in the US and the level of overall violent crime (not just gun crime) is lower as a consequence.

Americans will argue that gun crime is driven by illegal guns and that registered gun owners don't commit crimes, but so fucking what? If there's a massive pool of legitimate guns for the bad guys to steal or fence then you get more gun crime. It's not rocket science.

There's an assault rifle in most bedroom closets in Switzerland. Geneva is the site of constant running battle, oh wait a minute.

yeah I notice they use the statement "having a concealed gun for protection", Throd. With respect, we'll never agree on this one my friend.

Shot a baby at close range....

Death penalty please. As slow and painful as possible.

Yeah because the death penalty totally put this guy off doing whatever he did.
