Shot a baby at close range....

Death penalty please. As slow and painful as possible.

Any bets on these being some kind of anti-violence folk trying to get superhero movies banned?

Oh and raven, too kind, try a hole in the ground with flesh eating ants, only to be lifted barely alive, brought back to health and then dropped back in for a good 50 years.

Before giving the death penalty ofcourse.

I blame it on the mainstreaming of excessive violence, shows like breaking bad, FFS you can buy Meth cook plushies and crochet dolls.

Yep, there was never any violence before TV. Or films. Or books. Or whatever else has historically had the blame.

It has nothing at all to do with films, TV or books. It is nutcases that are to blame.

A slight aside; who the fuck takes a baby to a cinema? And what are kids doing in a PG-13? At midnight?

Toh you seem to be on a super-literal reading spree atm. That's not what Wazz said at all.

Although I feel extremely bad for the victims, I do wonder how it's possible that a dude with a couple gas grenades, body-armour on, a gas-mask and lugging "at least one" long gun* is not noticed by authorities / securities / other people?

edit: also, what Gaff said.

Of course there was , but when you desensitise the masses to ultra violence, you get more people falling of the bottom.

Jack Bauer must have been pissed off at somebody.

But really sad though for this to happen, people wanting to go watch a movie for all this to happen.

Bloody hell, that's awful. There are some sick people out there. No penalty will bring closure to the poor families, but whatever they can do to make the guy's remaining time on earth as painful as possible gets my vote.

Kids can go to any certificate movie if they have an overage guardian in USA.

Yeah the baby's odd but I don't see what's wrong with taking kids for a rare treat?

The police out there are menat to have had problems like this before. There is a large culture of people going to films in Fancy Dress in the States. So a guy heading to that screening in said get up might not have raised any eyebrows. Short of banning the fancy dress there only option would be to check everyone to make sure they are props and not real, but with a cinema of 200 people this might not be practical?

ah yeah sorry, I had my filthy euro liberal socialist head on. y'see, realistic gun replicas are not allowed in the NL outside of controlled circumstances and I immediately forced my personal values on everyone in the US. if *I* spot someone walking about a Dutch street with a gas mask and something that looks even remotely like a gun I'm calling the friggin cops.

I think the problem is less people going in fancy dress and more people having free and easy access to... guns.

Fucking tragic, horrific story. America scares the shit out of me.

Same. I used to work in a cinema and a guy tried to bring his 13-ish year old son to see Saw 4. I rightly refused entry to which his dad reacted badly, telling me it wasn't my right or my decision (it was) as they were paying customers (who cares?) and then told me "but he's seen all the other ones". What a fucking spanner.

I don't even think guns are a problem. Don't Sweden also have quite a lot of rifles kicking about?

Giving anyone who wants one with only rudimentary checks is the problem. I actually agree with the right to bear arms and wish we had the same here. But only with complete background checks, much like the CRB.

The other day I was stood behind some ballbag trying to buy 8 bottles of bicardi breezer, quite clearly for the two teenage girls (at a guess 13/14) with him. The girl on the till refused to sell them to him so he threw a wobbler, eventually the manager had to come and told him to do one.

People are idiots.

The only real problem is that there are people who are coocoo for cocoa puffs.

Sick bastards will get guns whatever the law says or whatever controls you put in place. Its got nothing to do with fancy dress, movie ratings, underage alcohol sales. The answer is: there is no answer. You can't screen everyone at every public place. You can't predict these incidents. You can walk out your front door and get knifed by a maniac, or blown up by a bomb, knocked down by a drink driver. What are you going to do? Live your life in fear?

True enough, but the UK's record when it comes to gun crime when compared to the US is an admittedly rudimentary but none the less obvious way of showing that the more that guns are easily available, the more chance there is of things like this happening.

Do you not watch the news? There are plenty of shootings in the UK as well, which seems unlikely as we dont have any guns ... ;)
