Yay! Took the chance and threw a few quid at Chilly's drunken bets... Turns out to be a good call.

Afternoon all. Had a good couple of days punting! Very good run of luck,

Today's bets:
Belgium v Russia: back belgium £568 @ 2.2
South Korea v Algeria: no bet, markets appear to be sensible
USA v Portugal: lay portugal £811 @ 1.85

Total P&L so far: £7021.15

Deffo having some good luck.
Good call on that 2nd game

So, I actually traded out of the Belgium bet at the same price I backed it at (net result is effectively a cancelled bet). It would have won, but that's the difference between an actual strategy and blind punting. Given that's my only mistake so far, in what is a very manual process, I'm quite pleased.

Bets for today:
Australia v Spain: no bet, yet
Cameroon v Brazil: no bet, yet
Croatia v Mexico: no bet, yet
Netherlands v Chile: back chile £347 @ 3.6

No bets on the first two because the models dont give much edge to the market price. If they drift a lot I might get involved.

Current stats: £8065.93 total profit on approx £20,000 staked. In a perfect world, we'd be about 5-10% in profit on volume staked, so roughly £1500. The fact we're £8k up is chance. If anyone is following these bets, BE CAREFUL. Just because I'm £8k up doesnt mean I wont be £8k down in a week's time.

Reality is he is just another Michael Owen.
Owen was better ;) scored more goals in less games and didn't play for England after he was 27 due to injury and basically becoming pretty shit after leaving madrid.

They both peaked in their early twenties then rode their name. Owen was at least clinical for england though but he was an out and out finisher, Rooney is more like an attacking midfielder. Or a striker that keeps trying to paly too deep.... He's not good enought at dictating a game to be an actual playmaking midfielder but doesn't seem to have the killer instinct to be a striker either.... dunno what he is, other than an oversized potato

Thought Rooney had the top goal scorer in the qualifying for the wc.

I seriously wish I had the balls to put decent money on the bets I'm placing at the moment, I'd be loaded. Backed Holland to win earlier, naturally, they did when all I put on them was a few quid.

yeah by scoring against shit teams like San Marino and 11 of his 40 are from friendlys. The only decent teams he's scored against competatively are Croatia, Uraguay and Switzerland, that accounts for 7 of his 40 goals. Rooney scoored 4 in euro 2004 but has then only scored another 2 goals in then next 4 tournament finals. so 6 in 5 overall.
Owen, by contrast, scored more cometative golas over all and scored against, Russia, Portugal, Brazil, Denmark, Germany and Argentina and Scored 6 goals in 4 tournement finals (same as rooney in one less tournyment but scored in every tourney).

Neither should go do as world greats. But Rooney's hype probably means he will.

In Rooneys defence he's played all over the shop, same at Utd. He's had 1 genuine season as an out and out striker for Utd and he scored over 40 goals until he suffered the ankle injury.

He certainly hasn't performed as some expect, but he hasn't been the worst for us in the tournament and he played a part in setting up our first goal and he scored our second. Had he of been playing up front regularly the chances he missed may well have been converted.
