The UEFA World Cup of Europe of the World..

I like it

We could invite a select few, like Australia to the Eurovision.

It does make me wonder if there couldn't be a split. Plenty of sports have done it, for better or worse. Rugby Union/League, CART and IndyCar etc.

Because Africa has more countries and more people?

Ok thanks :) Seems strange that a country that thrives on corruption, can vote half of the required votes to reelect someone.

Bendtner has resigned as a pro footballer using Twitter and is now running against Blatter. The prognosis so far has Bendtner in favour with 99.999% of the votes with a margin of error of 0.001%. It looks to be a landslide victory for the former Danish national striker

All hail the LORD

Although a UKIP MEP has stated that Bongo Bongo Land doesn't actually exist, it is still above Scotland and Wales in the fifa world rankings.

I do find it interesting that it took the Americans to kick all this off.
No surprise at all, since the DoJ launched its anti grafting laws they have been looking at every US business or anyone doing business through the US financial systems. Panasonic has at least two investigations launched concerning use of agents around the world. Anything that touches US financially or from being based there is being heavily scrutinized. Glad to say they never found anything amiss in Panasonic but I'm sure other organisations have been found to be in violation. I heard one of the first steps the DoJ takes is to place a high level attorney within the organsation and has to approve every financial transaction. The company under scrutiny has to pay up to 10,000 USD per day for that activity until the DoJ allows them to go unmonitored. I can't even buy a customer a meal these days without getting pre-approval. There is a guideline on what we can spend without getting sign off but that is effectively the price of a baseball cap hence known in the US as the 'baseball cap rule'. If anything the rules have gone too far and are being micro managed because companies do not want to get on the wrong side of any investigation.

The issue is that many countries still allow this behaviour and it makes it increasingly difficult win business in certain places around the world, India, Africa...... @Scouse is right, it is endemic within some business cultures. In my view governments are the worst. The amount of times we lose a deal only to find that a government back project from our competitions home country is involved in a major development or providing some sort of aid package is ridiculous. But who can oversee and stop that activity - EU/UN/WTO. At least the US is trying and doing the right thing but it will take many years for others to pull in line and follow in a similar manner. Don't even get me start on the French :)

It's interesting that crackdown on this kind of thing comes from the DoJ in the U.S., a country run by lawyers, whereas a similar crackdown came from the HMRC in the UK, a country run by accountants.

Back on topic, it's funny that Qatar is getting most of the attention in relation to FIFAs corrupt behaviour; I would imagine the level of graft going on in Russia right now is absolutely epic. I know people who've worked there in pretty senior roles and "business development" on the P&L is literally a synonym for "bribe"

Russia is the one stating that it's all a big land-grab by the U.S. This is obviously nothing to do with wanting to prevent a re-bid on 2018.

Nothing.

In this day and age you'd think they could give all the FAs a button on their tables and have the vote done in about 2 minutes. What a drawn-out load of bollocks. Hopefully the result will be pretty much instantaneous after the voting has finished...

Silly me, I didn't realise they were using bits of paper and stuffing them in boxes... This could go on all night.

It turns out that the winner needs a two thirds majority. What brand of bullshit is that in a 2 horse race?

Fucking hell, Blatter a few votes short of a two-thirds majority. What a load of (completely expected) horseshit. :(

I don't know the actual truth, the whole thing feels like an episode of the Bill, with clear cut villians goading the world...it has to be a media stitch up.

That what he claimed in the Saturday press conference - US and UK Media out to tarnish his reputation simply because their countries lost FIFA WC bids. He is like an absurd parody of a bond villain, he really should be stroking a long haired white cat when he does those events and shave his head completely.
