Jupitus I have a 2.5 Vectra, had it for a couple of years, its a sound car . And as you say, whilst it wont beat a little car on acceleration its much better 90 mph + :)
Anyway, for acceleration I have a Kawasaki ZX-9R . Sorted .

*looks envious*

Actually, now that the value of mine is getting pretty low I'm unlikely to sell it on, so I am toying with the idea of gutting the thing and using it for rallying or something... can I have your engine? :p

Been looking at getting a compromise between the two, but with plenty of "bollocks", Golf R32 looks nice/affordable (5 door) although the boot is miniscule.
I don't really see how anyone can view the Golf R32 as value-for-money, you could get an Evo VIII for the same money, or an RX8, or indeed plenty of other much better cars.

I didn't say it was value for money, I said it was affordable.

:)

Besides, RX8's are clear hairdresser territory, and I just generally dislike Jap "sports" cars - I think both the Scooby and the Mitsy are just plain ugleh.

my current list is:

VW - R32
Jag - X-Type
BMW - M3
Audi - A4

What the difference between a hedgehog and BMWs?

With hedgehogs the pricks are on the outside.

Technically hedgehogs don't have any 'pricks' on the outside... ;)

GDW says he likes the Sunbeam Alpha (dogs bollocks etc). You say "not with a spanking new engine".

More confused!

Meaning its not dogs bollocks with a better engine?

*shurg*

Someone told me they were confused because it had the spirfire bit.. thats why I edited :(

Older fords have a bit of a reputation, but recent fords run like watches. I've never had a problem with the fiesty, or the 1.1 fiesty before that (although it drank oil towards the end of it's life before i traded it in), nor has my dad with his ford or indeed my sister with her old escort.

It is infact german cars that a fairing worse than ford for reliability.

Ignition coil problem on brand new Audis anyone??

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/3129581.stm

Two other Volkswagen-owned companies, Seat and Audi, dropped from good to average in the reliability tables, while the sporty Audi TT received one of the magazine's lowest scores for reliability for years.

I'd love to know how much money people owe for all these cars. I drive a peugeot 306 XDTR and I'm stilling paying off the loan for it. And how many have cars bought by their parents?

Ford sucks ass, Fix Or Repair Daily and also ford decided once not to withdraw a certain model with a dangerous defect in the fuel tank because the costs to repair were more than the costs of legal bills from injuries or fatalities. Vauxhalls are easy to steal, I managed to hotwire one once in under 2 minutes and I had no clue what I was doing, I'd have no chance against an imobiliser myself but then again I'm no car thief.

I'd rather push a Ford than drive a Vauxhall.

Actually that's bollocks, but is a car sticker I've seen.

I'm car shopping now too, want something comfy and cheap to run, around the 5k mark, aaaargh. Cost of parts is not an issue with my new job, so by cheap to run I mean for the first time in my previously boy racers life, I'm actually considering a diesel, eeeeurgh

Nowt wrong with modern diesels (common rail ones anyway). The Mondeo TDCi, for example, has very un-diesel like power and acceleration... not too mention a shedload of torque for easy-peasy overtaking in any gear.

I drove one of those at the weekend. They are mental! 1.3L rotary engine giving out 232BHP. 0-62 in 6.4s

Im waiting to hear about the servicing charges before I buy one though. I heard a nasty rumour that rotary engines require a complete engine rebuild after 80,000 miles (I do about 25k a year :( )
