Which is fine if you're saying that as your subjective opinion, but you are presenting it as fact.

Those musicians are simply examples of musicians that had a major effect on music in some way, enjoyed by thousands of people - exactly like The Beatles to a larger or lesser extent in some cases. It could well be argued, for example, that Brian Eno through producing U2, through being in Roxy Music and through his vast array of solo work, is one of the most prolific and influential musicians to ever have lived. Whether or not you LIKE his work is irrelevant.

Same thing with the Sex Pistols, they brought a sound to the masses which completely changed the way a lot of people viewed and interacted with music. I personally can't stand their music, and feel there are far better punk bands around and that far better bands came before them that made more influential punk music. However you can't argue, objectively speaking, with what they achieved.

And what makes you think I, or anyone else other than you apparently, 'only listens to modern music'?

The reason I said you clearly know nothing about music is that you state that music has 'steadily devolved' since the 1960s, which is just not true. Phillip Glass, Brian Eno, The BBC Radiophonic Workshop, Talking Heads, Minor Threat, The Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth, Richard Hell and the Voidoloids, 8 bit musicians, noise musicians, etc etc etc - there is so much overwhelming evidence to show how much music has evolved over the years. Whether you like the way it has evolved or not is irrelevant. Just the same way that whether someone likes or dislikes The Beatles does not change what they did to music.

And by the way, if the best argument you can go with is to call me 'kid' then you really aren't helping yourself.

Indeed. Music is music, if you like it, thats good, but to quantify what is "best" is impossible, only a "kid" would think like that in the first place.

They can talk all they want, but this isn't primarily a discussion thread, so they could at least post some videos while they are at it. :)

But maybe that's just me... :)

The Beatles are the most critically acclaimed. So if there was a way of "quantifying" the best band in history - that would be it.

And thus my argument is proven. I need say no more. Enjoy listening to your souless music :).

It's a thread about what you're listening to, not who's better than who. If everyone wants to argue that one out, start a new thread, it is allowed you know.

This all started because Big G trolled my post.

Perhaps you should uproot the poisonous plant rather than cut off the leaves. Just think about it.

  1. I view you as equals.
  2. What I said in my post I said to "everyone"; And
  3. How you or anyone else thinks it started isn't relevant to what I've already said.
Just think about it.

You fail to understand the difference between popular and critically acclaimed. Some of Radiohead's albums are good, but none are masterpieces (of which atleast 4 Beatles albums are widely considered masterpieces; Revolver, Rubber Soul, Abbey Road and of course Sgt. Peppers).

Just shows you much you fail to understand music. The fact that they are critically acclaimed shows how much music has devolved. Get out.

You really don't like it when someone uses your own tactics to make you look like a tool, do you?

Off to listen to some devolved music now.

Get out. I'm listening to Buddy Holly - Bo Diddley (cover version). Enjoy your inferior drivel - it's not even music.

I'm still listening to Benny Goodman's 1938 Carniege Hall recording tbh. I have to say it's great to be able to listen and enjoy music spanning across different decades and genres, enjoy your narrow minded ignorance :)

Ignorance? Why should I settle for mediocrity? I am selective with my music because I demand the best.

Subjectiveness has nothing to do with quality. To use an analogy that you will understand; a man may believe that his wife is the most beautiful woman in the world - but that does not make it so. The Beatles are the best musical group in history - this is objective, not subjective.

Yeah just like Radiohead are the best band of the last 30 years? Or have you moved to best-selling since your argument was proved defunct, so we cite the likes of Madonna, Michael Jackson and Elton John as the other greatest artists? ;)
