So. The beeb's got this story about more than 60,000 texans signing a petition to be allowed to peacefully secede from the United States and form their own government.
The beeb, IMO rather cynically, picks this salient fact out as their justification:
Oooh. Intrusive checks. It's true. But it makes the story feel a little silly and unimportant doesn't it?
I'm long past thinking that the beeb isn't involved in putting a slant on stories to keep the real story mildly suppressed (there's a pattern of them underreporting - for me I started to see it when they didn't bother mentioning regular riots I witnessed in Bradford). Therefore, I was unsurprised when the beeb failed to mention the "blatant abuse of American's rights" - stated clearly in the text of the petition - of the National Defence Authorisation Act - or NDAA.
The ACLU says this:
...and worse.
Now, this is going to go nowhere. Any government that signs that into law (never mind how they've been acting for a long time) is facist by definition - and gives zero fucks about due process and the rights of people.
However, I do like the petition and the coverage.
Lets hope the Yanks remember what the constitution gives them their guns for, eh?

The text complains of "blatant abuses" of Americans' rights.
It cites the Transportation Security Administration, whose staff have been accused of intrusive screening at airports

On December 31, 2011, President Obama signed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), codifying indefinite military detention without charge or trial into law for the first time in American history.
