I posted a link to an article by a man who's job it is to war-game the European sphere of influence for the US military and I'm spouting shit?

There's two ways out of this - one is hugely risky to the whole world, the other involves a puppet government in Ukraine (likely) - or one which signs up to mandated neutrality (at best).

Any other way involves massive civilian lives lost - and that might not be limited to Ukraine.

I don't remember anyone getting this passionate about Afghanistan, or Iraq, or Syria. But now it's on European borders then everyone loses their objectivity. So yes in a "utopian" world then the Ukranian people should have the right to self-determination.

But, as people keep telling me, we live in this one.

A.) His military is fundamentally weakened and the senior officers are watching their troops and arms get fed into a meat-grinder for no good reason.
B.) The Russian economy has been totally broken.

The US are going to block all oil, gas and coal from Russia. That is a start.

The UK needs to reopen our North Sea fields (there is plenty left for the next couple of decades whilst we transition away from fossil fuel). If we lost our 5% Gas from Russia we can survive that easily.

Germany/Italy are fucked due to their own incompetence.
