The conspiracy theorist in me likes to think this a global response to COP26 - we need to buy less things, we need to consume less and our fuel consumption needs to drastically reduce.

What better way to do that than make all the fuel in the world really fucking expensive? ;)

Doesn't really hurt us, as you've pointed out.

Gas for Europe? Or are we not "in it together"?
Like I said earlier, there is plenty in the North Sea but the companies started to wind it all down. Force them to reopen the fields and supply the UK and Europe.

No but it hopefully will stop you bleating about the fact that the UK is sending money to Russia.
The WEST is sending money to Russia.

I don't give a fuck about individual countries. Never really did.

They'll reopen them without being forced if price is high enough for it to make sense

What, in, like, five years time or something?

Which will not make a lot of difference if Germany are still bathing in it or whatever.

And no, as the EU like to point out, we are not in it together. Germany built their house on the Russian mafia oil, only the Germans can deal with that problem.
The Germans are dealing with that problem. But how does this help Ukraine @Raven?

I would rather we didn't, but we have no choice.

Agreed, but it would not alter our usage, merely where we get the stuff from, we would still be moving to more greener energy, just not buying Russian oil/gas.

Years in the making...
You an expert on this subject as well? How many committees do you sit on?

So in 135 days at the end of this year, 4 wells drilled.

Seriously stop trying to be an expert in every field. You are a fucking broken fucked up record.

I'm waiting for Putin to come out in a funny little uniform and a massive hat and take personal charge of the Russian military.

So Europe has announced it will remove its reliance on Russia oil and gas by 2030.

They will start with gas and aim to reduce imports by 2/3 by the end of this year. That is Russia fucked,

You don't need to be an bleeding expert. It's obvious.

4 wells drilled. That doesn't mean 4 oil platforms constructed, in place, piping oil anywhere. It's just drilling holes in the ground and then capping them.

It was a big selling point for the nationalists up in skirtland, up until the arse fell out of it. Maybe it will give them something old-new to crow about.

Struggling to see the relevance in the "war with Russia" thread?

They've got some funding to start designing some shit that may or may not work - but if it does will pepper the planet with more fissile material for Russia (or whoever) to shoot at (in whatever war we're in, long after we've forgotten about Ukraine).

Winner. It'll definitely be cheaper and safer than other techs. Definitely. That's what the nuclear industry has been saying since the 1950's. So they must be able to get it right sometime, right?
