Here's the thing about government in the 21st century; they know more than you do, and by and large they do know what's best for you; not in everything, but in vast parts of your life. "Informational Asymmetry" means you usually know less than companies you deal with, with government, with healthcare, with most of the major touchpoints in your life, and the idea that you can make informed choices is basically bullshit, unless you have specific technical knowledge or, government gives you information or makes sure companies you deal with can't hide stuff, otherwise known as regulation.

Much as you may hate it, the world is too complicated for small government, unless you're rich enough afford specialist advice. Conservative ideas of self-reliance are a lie designed to appeal to greed and vanity.

There is certainly a valid concern about government overreach into your personal life, but in America the right does that just as much as the left, and have actually been way more successful at it for the last 40 years.
