What I don't get is why people protesting Nazis now seem to get called left-wingers. For as long as I can remember disliking Nazis, anti-semites and racists was something everyone did on left, centre and all the right except far-right.

Automatically classifying people who dislike Nazis as leftists is just another way of presenting the 'two sides' argument and false equivalence.

Whilst I completely agree the Neo Nazi protesters should have been condemned right off the bat, and there is no place for them in a normal functioning society - the counter protesters were not merely left wingers - they were the extreme left Antifa crowd, who have created just as many problems in the US over the last 2 years, being linked to the deaths of 10 Police officers and turning Berkeley into a war zone.

Personally I find the hammer and sickle just as distasteful as the Swastika.

However to blame both sides in this case was incredibly misjudged, and to argue would require a degree of nuance far beyond the Donald. So he needed to focus on the Nazis this time around, and wait for Antifa to show their true colours at a later date.

I did read that. It came across as heavily biased towards the extreme left side of the spectrum. But then looking on his Twitter feed, I'm hardly shocked.

Just because they were fighting Nazis, does not mean they are good people that should be put on a pedestal. After all, Stalin fought the Nazis, and he managed to kill more of his own people than the evil regime he was fighting.

The enemy of your enemy is not necessarily your friend. Comrade.

I'm not a fan of violence but then the only people on the end of their sticks are jackbooted white supremacists who'd happily re-light the ovens and start wholesale genocide if they got into power, so I struggle to give too much of a fuck.

Also, some of them are undoubtedly left leaning - you'd naturally expect that from people who are fighting the far right - but continuing to equate them all with communists is disingenuous.

I did some reading up on Bannon (remember that?) and there were a couple of articles that suggested the power he had in the White House was ridiculous and he was actually responsible for Trump's rise to power.

It's a big loss to the Trump administration - or it perhaps shows the Republican party gaining influence over Trump.
