Can't speak for Cerb's or SilverHood's experience, but on the west coast this incident got about 1 minute of news coverage. I don't have a job where I have opportunity to poll the general public on their views on current events so I can't say. But unless you are a special person or have family/friends who are close to the incident I don't think there's a great outcry regardless of if the people who got killed are white, brown, christians, or muslims.

a. the wall will cost over €20bn (plus ongoing maintenance). America has severe infrastructure problems already, this won't fix any of them
b. claiming Mexico will pay for the wall through tariffs is stupid (and yes, racist - he wants to get rid of EFTA with Mexico, not so much with Canada...) and trade barriers have repeatedly proven to be bad for America (the Hoover era is the most extreme example, but its been proven throughout American history in particular, but also loads of other places.) Plus, you've instantly taken away any incentive for Mexico to police their side of the border at all. Most illegals these days aren't Mexican, they're from further south and the Mexicans police their southern borders more than their northern one for this very reason. Thanks to Trump the Federales will just wave all those Gautemalans and Hondurans through to have at it on the Rio Grande. (NB. You've also suddenly made people traffickers even richer, smugglers love walls).
c. IT WON'T WORK! You can build a wall from the Pacific to the Gulf and it will hardly make a dent on illegal immigration. Unless you're going to incarcerate illegals, or start machine gunning them, you can keep throwing them back over the wall and they'll keep coming back, often the same day. I've literally seen this in action.
d. America's dirty little secret; without latinos the economies of the border states are fucked. Bit like a little closer to home in fact. America loves undocumented labour, particularly Republicans, what better than to keep illegals in as precarious a position as possible? This is why Obama could never get an amnesty over the line; legal workers are no use to bosses at all.

I think his policies are racist, but that's just a side effect; what he wants is a free hand to turn the 1% into the 0.01% and walls, undermining social democracy, undermining free education, and rabble rousing idiots are all part of that agenda.
