Every day is just chaos. Always forward looking, no attempts at fixing the destruction left in the wake of previous decisions. If something doesn't work, U-turn, then try again. The US economy is going to crash hard during his tenure. The irony is that the people impacted the most are going to be Trump MAGA diehards in red states. We're gonna need Live Aid for people of Kentucky, Alabama, Tennesee and Virginia's, or they'll starve to death.

And he's just wasted a shit ton of water that's going to be desperately missed for irrigation in California later in the year. Halting all funding, trying to get the entire civil service to resign, firing Inspectors General (illegally), whatever the fuck Musk is up to... everything he's done suggests he just wants to tear it all down with no regard for consequences (although one of the consequences will be him and all his billionaire clingers-on profiting), He'll still somehow blame the hellscape he creates on Biden or DEI or something.

And I've watched some of the confirmation hearings for these cabinet appointees and they are just all woefully unqualified and awful people.

It'll probably hurt the other countries more than the US.

Think about it as a tax raising measure on the American people (and remember that he did this last time and rather than reverse them Biden added more tarrifs).

So the yanks pay 25% tax on foreign goods. That goes in the pot. Other countries start to lose out on exports and their retaliatory tarrifs mean their populations pay more on US imports.

But there's an imbalance of imports/exports here and tarrifs mean that US produced goods become more competetive. To avoid tariffs businesses - who don't give a shit about politics - will indeed consider whether it's worth moving manufacturing bases to the poor areas of the US.

So yeah. They're not great for growth and they'll hurt the US - but because of the imbalances and size of US economy they'll hurt the countries that rely on exports to the US more...

Silly thing to say. All that would happen is other shipping companies would take the business.

Trump's not banning trade - he's fighting with China. Lots of asian companies that use chinese manufacturing have been "near-shoring" factories in Mexico for final assembly, effectively dodging tariffs on China. Apparently there's been a tripling of asian companies setting up in Mexico since 2020. Trump has just pulled the rug out from underneath them.

Now these companies will have to find another way of dodging tariffs for selling chinese goods into the USA. Possibly by just manufacturing them there...

And, one more reminder whilst everyone says "orange man bad". Biden increased tariffs too. Instead of repealing Trump 1.0's tariffs he added more on top.

I've said this before, but maybe it doesn't matter whether it's the GOP or Dems in charge eh? They both do the same thing...

Which ones? Maersk is gigantic. It'd take years for someone else to take up the slack. Maersk would just continue to serve....the rest of the world.

Canada is already seeing a decline in Teslas since they stopped EV subsidies last year (and the whole Musk is a cunt thing), and they sell handfuls in Mexico anyway.

It will be interesting to see if Europeans and Chinese start to swerve Teslas in big numbers. I know a lot of people who've dropped them off their shopping list.

And frankly, in a country where you can sack workers for no real reason - offering them 8 month's pay for walking is more than most yanks would ever get. There's no law requiring severance pay but the norm is like statutory for UK - without the statutory.

We can destroy the world 60 times over and it costs us $xxx to maintain that. How about we save some cash and only destroy the world 10 times over and save all this shit we can spend on something else?

The US spends more than 800 billion dollars on defence per year. Be nice to have 400 billion to spend on some other stuff, no?
