This new trust of Government and distrust of the Press attitude is very scary.
Don't trust either and to suggest that they are mutually exclusive is crazy.

Anyone that has ever been involved a newspaper story would tell you they are not to be trusted. Been involved in two, one local and one national. Both stories were basically over the top sensationalised narratives with the barest shreds of truth embedded. In one the only thing they got right was the date and location. Everything else was made up bollocks. A fight between two 17 y olds reported as a riot with 100 plus people which the police had to break up forcefully. The truth being a drunken teen headbutts someone gets punched and is ejected from the event. The police turn up, offender is known to them and they drive him home. My mistrust of the press started then.

I didn't see the NYT getting sued. They've been working on the story for 18 months. I doubt it's just made up.
Well I guess we can expect a indictment soon then. Or an explanation of why they can't.

I dunno.

I just think it's scary to live in a time where the President says 'fuck those guys' to the main group of people that make sure Trump isn't doing naughty stuff, and lots of people say 'OK, fuck the press!'

That would require the DoJ to start an investigation and some clarity about whether a sitting president can even be indicted.

Actually no..the people tired of the excesses of the left.

Jose wins first round in Brazils elections.
Has called immigrants scum, said he'd rather his son was dead than gay.
Bringing back the death penalty.

Yes, but Donald Trump has got to the point where if he did something major and all the press were reporting on it, he'd be about to tweet 'fake news' and many people across the world (even you) will say YES! , HE'S RIGHT!.

I just genuinely don't understand how he deserves your trust.

Thought it was the IRS that dealt with tax fraud, they even have their own team of investigation agents and the IRS Chief Counsel.

Just googled it and if criminal they do handover to bith DOJ and US States Attorney.

The IRS reports to the also seemingly corrupt Treasury Secretary. Swamp not even remotely being drained.

Agreed, it's a shit situation and neither side has their hands clean. Now it's turned into a mud throwing contest. Media being the boy that cried wolf. Trump getting to call anything fake news.

Maybe if the press kept to facts rather than politicised statements with an agenda this would not have happened. They broke their own ethics code multiple times over. The politicians never really had one, they have always been lying scum. The ultimate agenda of both sides is to cloud judgement in the hope they can dissuade voters. Personally speaking I see the ethics violations on both sides are detrimental to free and fair elections. If the DOJ policed media and the parties to the same standards as ethics in companies the situation would be a lot better.

If a politician knowingly lies he should be accountable, same for the media.

Thing is, I'm fairly sure 'make the people believe that you're for them and the media is lying' is in the 'Dummies guide to Dictator'.

Now, I'm not suggesting that America would allow Trump to become a dictator, but it's still extremely dangerous, I can easily see the WP or NYT finding something extremely dirty on Trump but them not reporting on it because of the power Trump has managed to gain over the Media.

Agreed it is a very dangerous path.

Also, the self governance of ethics with politician run committees is a joke. A third party non affiliate group would be better for all.

The thing is, Trump and the Media need each other - most of the dailies like the NYT, WaPo were on their arses before the orange one put his hat in the ring, now their circulations are through the roof. Part of me does wonder if it is basically all a massive charade to get us all buying newspapers again.

There was that thing on the Beeb recently about the Washington Post (Or NYT, but who cares, they're the same thing, right?) and there was a bit on Steve Bannon, publicly - in front of the other press he would rip the NYT/WP to shreds and call them fake news.

However, after the conferences, he'd take them to one side and give them an exclusive news story and say 'it wasn't from me.'

Yeah, highly suspect.

Ive posted it before..but watching a Eutelsat feed before the gulf war, an outside broadcast segment is being transmitted.
It was a bbc reporter being jostled by wailing Iraq women in front of a derelict street, he struggling to speak as they shove him, hes repeating their words in English...death to America.
It was standard stuff at the time.
The piecexends the camera zooms out and the women walk off quietly chatting, the derelict street is a cropped shot of an alleyway, all around is westernised Iraqis looking on in bemusement, designer bags, bmws audis driving down a modern road.
I knew then..the lying , criminal bastards...its all lies, why would they do that..the bbc?
Whis controlling them..is it just reporters looking for stories?
A shoot off of hurricane reporting?
Its beyond belief, they still do it on Syria..they do it on every story.
We need a cull of the media and an investigation into its alliances.

Discussion by a 'MSM' journalist about how they decide to publish stories about trump which sharply contrasts with the decision making process of the alternative media (e.g. gateway Pundit: does it support trump? yes, run it)

Never heard of it..just amused me that in the days of clamping down on extremist content, Trump machine gunning mexican immigrants seems to be just fine.
Did you read the text at the beginning?
