Basically, this whole thing is Judge Judy on steroids, right?

I mean, fuck the whole case, look at how the guy simply behaves, if I were murican I'd be appalled that this guy was being considered - but I suppose he's actually doing the right thing. Making it entertaining, getting peoples support by saying outlandish shit.
What should have stopped it being Judge Judy is that when Republicans and the White House learned about the allegations, long before the public did, they should have delayed the hearing to allow for investigation or picked someone else. They chose to force the issue on to the floor of the Senate and therefore onto TV.

Just did me some reading on old Brett old buddy old pal.

A YouGov/The Economist poll on September 23–25 found 55% of Republicans thought he should be confirmed even if the allegations of sexual assault were true, compared to 28% of the whole sample and 13% of Democrats.

On September 20, 2018, The Guardian reported that two Yale professors had advised female law students at Yale that their physical attractiveness and femininity could play a role in securing a clerkship with Kavanaugh. Chua reportedly stated that female applicants should exude a "model-like" femininity and "dress outgoing" in their job interview with Kavanaugh. Jed Rubenfeld reportedly stated that Kavanaugh "hires women with a certain look". Responding to the report, Chua denied that Kavanaugh's hiring decisions were affected by female applicants' attractiveness, stating, "Judge Kavanaugh's first and only litmus test in hiring has been excellence."Yale Law School Dean Heather Gerken called the allegations "of enormous concern to me and the school", which she said is investigating the matter.

He's clearly a bit of a Lad, why is he lying when there's so much evidence to suggest he didn't behave in the ways that he did?
Yes, he's a prick. It's also not the first time he has perjured himself. Stupid pick gets stupid result.

What's wrong with the way it is supposed to work? Supreme court appointments are not trials.
Agreed they are not trials but they always end up this way. I remember the Obama appointments hearings being equally as bad. He had more than one turned down if I remember correctly(??). They always end up as trials and character assassinations, trial by media and politicians, both of which are agenda driven. I just think the whole process is agenda driven nonsense. Show me any person that states they do not have a single lawful transgression or character flaw and i'll show you a liar.

Edit: Barack Obama judicial appointment controversies - Wikipedia

I honestly don't know why anyone would put themselves through it. The drunken mischief I got up to in teens and early twenties I wouldn't have lasted a day or even got there even if qualified :)

As long as you didn't sexually assault anyone and didn't lie about it, just admit you got drunk and spewed because hey I was 18, then you'd be fine.

Agreed. Though he seems to equate them, there's assumedly a large gulf between the drunken mischief of young @Hawkwind and actual sexual assault. :coffee:

As usual the liberal european press left out a few facts in their endless anti republican agenda.
Even though its not a game changer, the fact that she couldnt remember where it happened, didnt know the house or which room it was, didnt even know the district.
Now thats not unusual when youre a teenager partying, but you would think a sexual assault that has scarred her for life would give her memory a jolt over the years she kept it in as to where in the country she was.

Can you imagine for a moment if her memory is distorted and this did not actually happen as she thinks. This guy is going to be remembered as a rapist, despite no conviction and nothing more than hearsay testimony.

I'm not sure mischief back in the 80's and what construes as sexual aggression equate now. The Austin Powers approach of, "fancy a shag" would not be taken the same way they were 30 years ago. Back then it would have been laughed at or at worse getting told to "xxxx off!". Now you would probably be classed a sexual predator, misogynistic and a nazi all over social media with pictures and video recording.

And no, for the record, I never raped anyone or forcefully coerced anyone for sex.

Hearing industry whispers that the US are starting to formulate plans to hit EU with sanctions in aerospace sector. WTO back in May sided with US and Boeing over the financial subsidies EU Governments (mainly France & Germany) provided to Airbus in the form of guaranteed (fixed) dollar rates. Estimated (by US) at $22 Billion! So it won't only be China that the US will have a trade war with.

Trump will love it, and spin that it is more jobs for Americans and quietly forget that he flushed Boeing's biggest deal for 10 years down the toilet, that be Iran Air and the competition for 350 new aircraft, half of which was destined for Boeing.

Edit: Original story on WTO findings here:

WTO says EU illegally subsidised Airbus

This is what is prompting action:

No idea how the guy can be a Supreme Court Judge, I mean, he threw an ice cube at someone.

Imagine that, an ice cube! The things people got up to when drunk in 1985 eh?

Despite what he did, he still technically lied under oath infront of the senate, that reason alone should have stopped him from becoming a supreme court judge.

Yes. And he probably did assault her. Why not do a full investigation to find out?

They did a "quick" one and evidently their findings satisfied the senate enough to make them say yes (for the first round of votes) - 3 of his college friends came forward after his senate speech and outted him as a lying fucker though, if he would lie under oath about something so trivial (talking about the drinking, not rape allegations) what else would he lie about? definitely shouldn't be allowed to be a supreme court judge and I think it shows just how far gone America is if they'd allow such a man to hold such a powerful position.

So back in July then, when it was sent to them. They looked at it, knew it would not stand up to any real scrutiny so they waited till Sep/Oct to throw that Poor woman under the buss and try to delay until the mid terms. Dispicible people, all of them on both sides.

No real proof pribably. These days it seems you just say stuff, put it out there and then leave it. hoping some of the shit sticks.

If they had it, they would have broke the story, handed over to the authorities and then sat back waiting for the Pulitzer. So very sad that the media is as bad as the polticians these days. Lowest common denominator I guess.

You only have to look back over this thread for the endless false dawns of justice.

Its now become wolf crying and no one gives a shit...he is protected now by a complete lack of credulity from a sea of accusations.

I didn't see the NYT getting sued. They've been working on the story for 18 months. I doubt it's just made up.

This new trust of Government and distrust of the Press attitude is very scary.
