Funnily enough, after a bit of searching, Coinbase came up, and I signed up with them

They're lucky they have the old parallel bit they can put back into service at the drop of a hat. If they have to start unloading containers to refloat the ship, the main channel could be blocked for weeks.

Edit - although, if the ship is where the beeb page says it is, the old canal won't help much because the expansion was north of the lake so I'm not sure what that's about.

I found that site way more interesting when I zoomed out and started to see just how many ships there are going here there and everywhere

Right, so how does opening up the old canal help at all? Ships can't get through the whole length of the canal while the Ever Given is stuck and there's a huge lake in the middle so it's not like they need the space to store the south-bound ships until it's been cleared. I just don't understand how opening the old bit helps.

I assume it will speed up the exit of northbound ships to leave the lake clear for the backed up southbound ones? I doesn't help the ships stuck in the main channel but it ease the backlog so when they do open there isn't a giant traffic jam (or at least a reduced one).

I'd love to see the Suez canal. I've seen the Panama Canal and its pretty remarkable.
