Bollocks. My kids have zoom calls with their friends every day at the moment. Only way to keep them sane.

That's up to you.

I'll just tell you that it's always the innocent girls that get targeted by older boys and it can take seconds for it to go from a zoom with her mates to a 1 on 1 encounter with a boy.

It's always the well meaning middle class parents too that come flying into schools telling the school (because schools should monitor home internet usage right?) Even though they're just the ones that find out. It's a police issue.

So you either educate your child on this if they're not street wise or you heavily monitor their internet usage.

I'd be terrified of it if we're a parent to be honest, it really is a big problem and it's getting way worse.

I don't understand why kids need video chat anyway to be honest. MSN was more than enough was more than enough when I were a yout', the only reason you'd use a webcam is to go on Omegle.

Now if they could do the same everywhere else and just block all news being posted on FB everywhere that would be great. No need to worry if its fake news or not can just assume if its on Facebook its bullshit :)

Did you see Google agreed to pay the Murdoch's though? (whilst still maintaining that they won't pay anyone) Great news high five.

There is certainly a place to educate the child on what they should and shouldn't do and trust them to do it/not do it.
If parents could be trusted to not try to tear up the world when little Jemima inevitably breaks that trust and shows her 12 year old fanny to a lad/dog/penguin on the internet then that'd be fine.

But they can't - the internet'll get more regulated, the rest of us will have our freedoms even more curtailed due to collateral "think of the children!!11" damage.

The ridiculous rules over age of consent are born of this parental panic and they are used to lock up 16 year olds shagging 15 year olds - a totally natural thing to do.

That's generally the problem with state interference in human interaction, parents demands to have the harshest possible outcomes on the other side of the party (never little Jemima and her webcam fanny show) mean that mature and reasonable responses to social trends aren't really possible.

Nothing innocent about the vast majority of this interaction.

We need to stop framing this as if it's a one-way street.

Huh?

Are you saying that you have a issue with the factually correct statement that most cases consist of younger girls and older boys?

Said it was +12 in the car earlier :)

Pretty sure it was lying though but been sat with my office (office being a corner in the living room atm!) window wide open all day.

Weather bods are predicting a balmy 14 degrees for Saturday...might get the BBQ out.

Yeah, I like low humidity cold quite a lot, very refreshing and doesn't actually feel that cold.

Anyway, with the weather perking up and vaccine booked and the feeling we might be turning a corner with the virus and starting to look for a new job I am starting to feel a bit more positive about things, the last year has been absolutely horrible.

Just cut my son's hair with the clippers that just arrived from Amazon. Just did a no 6 all round but tried to leave a bit more on top and at front so it may be a bit uneven. Still looks better than the unruly mop he had before though imo.

You do both; you control who's on the Zoom calls and you educate your kids. We schedule the call via the parents through whatsapp first, and the kids chat with the door open (my daughter is on zoom with her friends right now but I can hear her, and when my son goes on line my wife can hear him from her office.) Its not actually that difficult, at least not while they're still quite young. I quite like earwigging on her Roblox raids with her friends and I've given my son a mural account so he can whiteboard ideas with his two friends; he's nine and has taken to it like a duck to water.

You can't avoid this stuff, especially now, and I actually find the kids are miles ahead of their teachers in terms of exploiting the online opportunity (and trolling their teachers, which I should totally crack down on but I can't because my daughter's teacher is a lazy irritating twat who deserves it).

Facebook clearly did it all extra stuff deliberately in the hope the Australians would blame the government and march on Canberra to leave their precious Facebook alone (and some twats have indeed blamed the government). Personally I'd take the opportunity to be the first country in the west to tell them to fuck off back to California.

*edit* and take Twitter with them.

(Taking Summo's crown)

I've been dying the wife's hair for months, when she did manage to get to the hairdresser sometime last relaxation of rules they commented on how much of a good job I had done!

I might develop a bit of a mince and change profession.

If anyone needs proof men remain kids no matter their age, look no further than my Dad. He's pushing 80. He was given a lengthy COVID questionnaire to fill in by his dentist in the waiting area. He told me he got so fed up with the amount of questions, he got about three-quarters of the way through, said "Sod this for a game of soldiers" (or a more colourful phrase) and drew a picture of a cock and balls on the form, and handed it in.

LOL

I would have wet myself laughing if I saw that.

You said innocent younger girls*.

On the second point - You ever tried to go out with a girl your age at school? Who did they want to go out with?

Were they active participants in their own sexuality (from a young age, just like boys) or is sex still something "done" to girls in your victorian mind?

*edit: I mean, I even fucking bolded it in your quote and spoke about that specifically. Why did you go to such lengths to ignore my point?

I asked a question because I was unsure what you meant, chill out.

I do understand what you're saying, but I'm talking about 12 year old girls that will take their clothes off on a webcam completely unaware of what they're doing, but pleasing a boy that said 'do you want to be my girlfriend?'

I know from experience of working in schools that these cases (and they're pretty often) are *always* (again, in my experience) led by boys against girls.

You can make the case that boys like it and don't mind getting their nobs out for girls on webcam, but let's not make judgements about boys eh ;)

I disagree it's "against" girls (although no doubt boys are more eager). But I do dispute that 12 year old girls take their clothes off "unaware" of what they're doing.

Was a tense watch live. Thanks @Zarjazz :)

It's kind of crazy the whole landing procedure going from separation, entering the atmosphere at 10km/sec, controlling the descent to get to the small target area, braking and then the whole parachute and lowering procedure. All entirely automated.

... get to the small target area, check it's what is expected and then move to better one if needed.,.
