Open flame in a public crowded place is just fucking stupid

Its a world heritage site ffs not a camping ground

Cook it at home and stick it in a thermos if you dont want to pay the extortianate prices
I thought next to the Rialto was incredibly stupid - really daft - but I call bullshit on any safety concerns - it's a little burner for heating water.

Fining backpackers nearly £1000 for such a transgression is disgusting though. It clearly smacks of creating a hostile environment for the poor. The po-po could easily have moved them on. I wouldn't have objected to them confiscating their burner for the duration of their stay, or a smaller fine - but nearly a grand is a fucking disgrace any way you look at it.

It's not like they'll have signs up saying "no making your own drinks - buy them at £8/cup from the expensive cafes or we'll take your entire travelling budget for your holidays off you".

Yes, dumb. But they were making a hot drink, not stealing or assaulting people, drunk and disorderly etc....

Fuck off lol.

Its gentrification on steroids, they're an eye sore and they're not buying local coffee, that's why.

They're backpackers, they're probably sharing a hostel with other people.

I bet the homeless have been pushed out of the city to die quietly in surrounding areas.

Open city space next to a a river is slightly different to a cathedral made out by of wood.

Even the Veneitians aren't using safety as their excuse, I do bet they wish they thought of that though!

Not being aware of laws or regulations is not an excuse for not following them.

I dont known of any city in europe where you could light up like that in a crowded space and not be stopped if the police spotted you

As Scouse said.

Anywhere else in the fucking world the police would be more like nah mate, you can't do that, we will take it off you (at the worst)

1000 euros? Lol.

Its super-gentrification in a disgusting fashion.

Unless you're a millionaire you should be concerned.

Nobody is saying it's not monumentally dumb.

It is.

But what it's not is A) unsafe or B) worthy of a worse fine than I've managed to clock up in speeding fines in my entire life (and if I put my hands up, occasionally that was actually "monumentally" dumb - not in the 'making a cup of tea' way dumb, but actually dangerous dumb)

Its difficult.
Braun always stayed by the story, he was a rocket enthusiast who became useful and simply turned a blind eye to get his dream.

Undoubdetdly slave labour was used in the Nazi rocket program, how much he was involved has been debated since the war....but you cant hide the truth, because one day you will be the one cast aside for someone elses victory

Von Braun was a anti-semitic until the day he died and he was a card-carrying Nazi and there were on ton of eye-witness accounts of him visiting Mittelbrau-Dora (where slaves for Peenemunde were acquired).

Meanwhile Frank Malina, one of the founders of JPL and literally the first person in the US to get a rocket above 50 miles, has been written out of NASA and American history because he joined the communist party as a student in the 1930s.
Frank Malina - Wikipedia

The United States of America everybody, loving those Nazis' work since 1945.

That's an old clip (from before the start of last season). Grand Tour isn't dead, its just entirely specials from now on (no more studio stuff, which everyone hated anyway. I could live without the studio stuff on Top Gear as well tbh).

Top Gear is pretty good now..enough for me to seek it out to watch it.
Mainly becauae they have entirely recreated the three personalities.

Not really. Flintoff is just a nasty piece of work frankly. I quite liked it at first but then it just got weird, and for a car show they didn't do many new car comparisons; most of the road trips were in old wrecks.

1. Holy fuck how do you afford to live there? We moved to the UK and made more money and paid less taxes. My family still in Denmark do a monthly shopping trip to Germany for the most expensive things. Eating out is a rarity. Most families will have 2 people working full time. Once kids are 14-15 they will get a part time job.
2. Does Denmark have speed cameras? Danes are always speeding, especially when the weather is bad. Whenever there's a speed trap, it gets posted on social media, so they police have mobile units now.
3. What's with all the tattoos? The middle class stigma about tattoos never really existed in Denmark. As long as they weren't visible when you're in work clothes, no one cared. My day care workers had tats, as did some of my teachers.
4. Why aren't there Lego Houses on every street corner in the world? They tried, and bricked the attempt
5. What do people do? Billund and surrounding area is sparsely populated and central "middle of nowhere Denmark" Most towns will have an industrial estate where the manufacturing and office space is, especially for towns older than 200 years. Center of town is shops, restaurants, bars and real estate agents. If you want large crowds, you need to go to the regional big cities Copenhagen, Aarhus, Aalborg, Odense, and I recommend provincial towns too, like Sonderborg and Ronne.
6. Do many Brits visit Denmark? Not really, but you learn English aged 6 or 7 in School, and most of the internet and TV is in English, so we learn that way. Most people will go on holiday outside Denmark, and the second language will usually be English.

I dont suppose you know any good taxi services near Billund?
Uber doesn't seem to be a thing there!

No idea! It would be my idea of hell to live there.

Nobody around as far as you can see.
Be pretty damn windy, rainy and cold 300 days a year.

No sorry, not lived anywhere close. I think the rates in Denmark are pretty standard though. A few google hits: International dial code is +45
Billund - site is in danish, numbers at the bottom
Billund Taxa - in English, number at the right hand side.

You have to be up at the crack of dawn to get that particular view without about 250 other people. :)

It does have some wonderful parks, I used Richmond and Bushy a lot although when looking out from Sawyer's Hill in Richmond park towards the center of London you can clearly see the pollution. I will missing the parks since about 2 weeks ago I moved to Devon, which needless to say I'm going to enjoy a lot more :p
