My argument against the education system atm, is it is woefully pointless against the tools that being developed...as for the tools we will see in ten years time..its practically pointless.
Someone has to force a discussion on this, it will be difficult because so many people are entrenched in an old world view of worth/hard work/timestable education.
Teaching maths in utterly pointless...no one is ever going to use a human brain when the chip in a birthday card could beat the greatest mathamaticians at number churning.
Languages...pointless
History..vastly important to stop us repeating the bad bits.
The rest...google it.

Sigh. This. Again? Maths isn't "number churning", and you can have the smartest computers in the world that are just lumps of silicon and plastic if you don't know how to ask the right question.

Vast numbers of jobs are going to disappear, but that doesn't mean you don't need an education. Most people don't know how to "google it", because they have no concept of critical thinking or logic.

I agree. Until we invent computers who invent computers and learn to think beyond their programming. We need humans to push the boundries.

Machines can only do what they are programmed for and traditional jobs might be lost to them but new jobs emerge that need education to do them. You are just like the ludites. And a couple hundred years later most of us are still in gainful employment.

When i say you i mean @Job and the original post.

Machines will push the boundaries...way..way beyond our capabilities.
When I say maths is number churning..thats only in education, the only time you use it.
People just need teaching what maths is, we get it..its boring, let the machines do it.
People imagine some dystopian future like the Time Machine Eloi, no life wull be normal, we will just have supertools at our disposal to rid us of the drudgery of learned thought.
Like the car allows us to teach 1000X beyond our frail human form.

Just because you're (probably) thick and (probably) rubbish at maths, doesn't mean you speak for the majority. I had to do a stats module at Uni, now *that* (to me) was boring but to others it was enthralling. I don't think you even appreciate how broad of a subject maths is.

I'll just leave that there.

There you go again..people who dont like math are thick..you're victorian values are leaking.

Or how it's boundaries are pushed by humans.

Computers are great at maths when we can define the equations and problems for them exactly. They can't solve the problem for humans or take an abstract idea and translate it into maths.

Not people who don't like maths; people who are rubbish at it. And I wasn't talking about "people", I was talking about you. You've proven on here time and time again that you're not exactly beating down Mensa's door. Which is fine, but don't then act like you're speaking for the majority and say things like "we shouldn't bother with education because it's pointless".

Well, actually they can take an abstract idea and turn it into maths, that's what Big Data does, (precision is trumped by large scale sampling), what they can't do is have an abstract idea in the first place. This is the point, yes computers can perform amazing mathematical tasks that have been historically impossible, but those tasks were thought up by humans. Its also the problem; the "AI" in Alexa or Google is predetermined by human decision making; you don't get the "best" search results, you get the most profitable ones.

Thats a much bigger issue, but to presume that AI, machine learning will stop at dumb code following is very far of the mark, AI will achieve super intelligence and pseudo consciousness very quickly indeed.
The speed and number of inputs it will contemplate are factors of billions better than humans.
This is a territory beyond our present comprehension, allready dumb first attempt AI is outperforming doctor and lawyers.
By 2030 it will be combining every single possible outcome from trillions of inputs to make decisions billions of times a second, cancer cures will be childs play to it, the most advance multi dimensional math will be analysed and compared to every outcome to delve into the truth of matter at rates billions of times faster than our hopelessly slow human interaction, writing theories, peer review, visits to conferences, egos, intolerance, snobbery all washed aside.
It will evolve by trail and error and will surpass everything we have ever done in months and all we have to do is light the touch paper.

In Engineering terms no they are not, they are stupid. It's the humans that engineer and write the code that enables a relative dumb pile of switches to do the math. OK AI is changing things but until machines design machines we should still be relevant. :)

Wiggins on his bike.

Holy crap..they have knifed him in the back without a shred of actual evidence..regardless of what happens next, hes fucked.
I do believe hes a cheat though...the sport is a joke.

Bradley Wiggins and Team Sky accused in damning drugs report
Seems cycling long distance is all about the little advantages. Pushing the boundaries of whats acceptable. Still dont think he broke the rules?

Part of the problem is that Brailsford and Team Sky madea big song and dance about how clean and ethical they were, and the ethics part all looks a bit hollow.

They're all at it.

It's amazing how many athletes have "asthma". But it's exercised-induced asthma. That's the sort of asthma you have when you're running your body so hard that it can't cope - so you need drugs to keep it going.

Athletes get prescribed inhalers to stop them being unable to run their marathon, swim their race or ride their Tour De France because their lungs stop working. Unlike the guy next to you who's lungs can do it without medical intervention.

In day-to-day life they don't have asthma. Just when absolutely twatting their bodies into the ground.

They're all fucking cheats. But that's because the rules say they can. Rather than the rules saying "performance related asthma means your body is too shit to compete at this level without drugs to keep you going"...

If your body can't function properly, without medical intervention, then you're a shit athlete - and your (mostly) middle-class ass can get a proper job like the rest of us, instead of lottery funding to allow you to "compete" for a living.

The whole thing is getting dangerously close to why fucking bother.
Do we hail average people who work very hard to win or genetically superior people who walk it.
Thes people are a tiny, tiny minority of those who try, its more about celebrity than sport and drug taking to win is just their version of the nose/ boobjob for movie stars

The thing about the Tour is that you still need to out there every day for a month and ride. It's not like running for 20 seconds and then you're done. I almost feel like they should just allow all drugs. Maybe some of the new drugs they would develop could benefit society.

On the one hand, I kind of agree about the drugs but insurance laws will never allow it when they all start dying of heart attacks at 35 or cancer at 40. On the other hand, there clearly was a time when cyclists did The Tour “clean” even if it was 40 years ago, so it’s not like it can’t be done.

Britain 'needs to go on a diet'

Its becoming more and more big brother telling us what to do. Its ok them saying these are guidelines that you could follow. But part of the article is saying that they are willing to go to government and ask them to legislate.

Where is it going to end. Prescribed food to make sure you only eat what the state considers acceptable.

Surely in a capitalist society the market should dictate.

I read this and immediately went to McDonald's for 2 Sausage and Egg McMuffins and a large Coke.

PHE really need to cunt the fuck off and leave us alone. Maybe just teach fatties to put down the fork and get off their arses rather than punishing the rest of us and making all our food 20% more expensive, ruining Ribena, Lucozade and Irn Bru for those of us allergic to artificial sweeteners (more than one can of Pepsi Max and I get headaches) and those diabetics who relied on them when they needed a sugar boost.

And how can they honestly justify advising 1600 calories a day when the general advice is 2000/2500. Might be OK for the exercise-shy, but not the best message for anorexics and other eating disorders.

In case it wasn't clear - Public Health England - please fuck right off. And then when you have fucked off, come back so you can fuck off again. Cunts.
