So the national.office of statistics have revealed that on average the plumbers, electricians, brickies and plasterers , earn more that the architect with a degree who designs the buildings...in the case of plumbers its 10K more.

The Office of National Statistics? Really? Or do you mean the Federation of Master Builders? An organisation that might have a vested interest in getting more plumbers, electricians and brickies in the labour force. So they put out a puff "survey" of 320 people. About 1700 people less than you need to create a statistically significant samples size (maybe you should google that maths stat).

I dont doubt the salaries for plumbers and brickies...the reason I posted and could have phrased it quite considerably better is that the average graduate earning from the NOS is shockingly low.
A degree has become for so many of the middle and working class a simple badge of snobbery, a bit like a range rover parked outside a two bed terrace.

Fuck me @Big G! Grats.

Happy for you pal. I'm not being a party pooper but it would be remiss of me not to say make sure you have a loooong engagement. Three months from meet > marriage is exceedingly quick. Not saying it's the wrong decision just that now you've nabbed her there's obviously no rush. Make the most of yer time :)

Thanks mate, we know it's quick, but it comes from a place where both of us have been in long term relationships and never felt this way before. It was a lightbulb moment, plus being older and wiser we're very much aligned in values and what we want out of life. We're looking at the end of next year for a wedding, but in the mean time we've got so many plans we want to execute (see the world together, travel, hike, photography etc.). It's amazing how refreshing life can be when you can share it with someone who wants exactly the same things. We're both very, very happy. :)

Fucker.

What do you do again? It doesn't seem fair :(

I recall he's published something similar before, titled "View from my home" or some such, with a comparable backdrop. I think he's a savage, living and working in the wild. God knows how he uses Internet and manages to post here though.

Glad you had your "fun" then found the right one for you.
I should imagine your Ex will react when she hears the news :)

In the course of the whole thing, we've spoken to so many people; some got engaged in weeks, some in months, most after years, and some who got engaged and just haven't bothered to get married. I'd logically agree that you absolutely need to know that person well enough before making such a bold move, but after 10 years in my previous relationship (and her in her 8 year relationship) we realised that if the other person changes their mind for whatever reason, you may as well have not known them at all - the timescale for 'knowing them' was utterly meaningless. What is definite is that I never felt this way in 10 years (or the 5 years before) about another person.

There is no right or wrong way to do it, if it works then it works.
