Ill give you an example..one girl has an instagram page with lots of friends...school bully threatens her outside school to hand over her password..shes a quiet, nervous kid.
Bully posts pornographic photoshops of her sucking off one of the teachers on the instagram page then allows everyone to comment after sending ot to various idiots around the country.
It was her hobby, named after her and now its destroyed, police get involved.
Bully gets warning, home visit to parents who dont give a shit, 1 weeks suspension...and well the liberals win again.
Utterly fucking useless.

WTF has that to do with "liberals"?

And I maintain - if they "live their lives" online then they've lost perspective. Turn off. Manage. End of problem.

And again, it's not a problem that a) is inescapable (it's manageable - there IS a solution) and b) can actually result in physical harm alongside the emotional...

Lmao Job, you're completely right but again, youre blaming 'liberals' which would describe the whole of our country since we are a liberal country.

What do you want them to do? Put the kid behind bars? He did something stupid, but he's a fucking kid, punish him, sure but why ruin his life because of it?

Yeah I suppose. But then I avoid social media - and I think it'd be good if they did too.

Hitting ignore, blocking people and just turning your damn electronics off and walking away works. The thing about real bullying is that you have no escape. If it happens in the classroom and you're forced to go there day after day...

We can avoid social media because we're curmudgeonly old bastards; it doesn't work that way for kids. There's no point in saying "just switch off" anymore than telling them to stop breathing; watch teenagers interact with each in the real world; they're still on their phones and could be having an online conversation with the person right there next to them. FOMO is so intense with these kids because the conversation is going on all the time, so if you're not in the conversation, you end up becoming the topic of the conversation, and that's how the bullying starts. @Job isn't wrong on this one; a whole year of a school near here got suspended a couple of years ago because they were virtually trashing a couple of individuals (I seem to remember there was even a teacher involved).

(LOL. I wrote "@Job is wrong on this one" Force of habit).

Yeah I had a friend who made a Facebook page about a teacher he was excluded for 2 weeks and all the kids that joined the group got detentions.

It's a real issue in schools right now and part of the problem is that we don't educate about the internet properly, for instance most schools have an absolute 0 tolerance towards mobile phones in schools.

However many teachers are saying wtf, because they can be utilised as an educational tool - I sometimes tell kids to research stuff rather than asking me, even though they're not allowed to have their phones in school, but anyway.

The other problem with is it is that the argument for 99% of school rules is 'you can't do that in the workplace'.

But you can use your phone at work - it's just using it at appropriate times for appropriate purposes - I've seen many young people in workplaces who have absolutely no idea when they could use their phone so as a result they use it -all- the time on the sly and behave like they're at school.

'cause we've told 'em it's OK to be online 24/7 and parent's don't do anything about it. Fucking take their phones off them, en masse, for weeks at a time for god's sake. If the school requests it, bring their phones in to be locked into a safe for a month. That sort of shit should be happening regularly - to teach kids what's real in the physical world and show them what they lose from having a permanent online life.

But hey ho, nothing I can say about that really matters. It'll never happen. I'm glad I'm long out of that shite and very glad I'm not a parent :)

Funnily enough the wifes just come in and says shes had enough, eight police referrals for underage sexting, we are talking 11/12 year olds.
Of course before the internet, kids showed each other their bits in the park or behind the bike sheds.
But now , like everything, it's another part of life to be exposed to the glare of opinion and legality.

I dunno man.

I mean, sure I completely understand your argument of people staring into a phone is bad, however the economy trumps peoples welfare; future work forces will be far more efficient when it comes to the use of technology.

All those 40+ year olds that are useless with technology and are in quite IT dependent jobs - they'll be gone.

At the end of the day, technology needs to be encouraged to used be educated about. There's many kids who are dropping social media, it's quite refreshing to see, it's a minority, but still.

I recently taught a lesson about social media, and showed this video;

I don't think looking at phones or facebook makes people "competent" at technology - kids today aren't hugely well versed in actual useful technology (as opposed to consuming it, in the forms of games, social media etc. etc.). Smart phones and dumb people is absolutely right.

I think when you find that a not insignificant proportion of top execs who made these actual apps wouldn't countenance their children (or themselves) ever use them then you have your answer.

They don't enrich life. They sap it. Whatever meaning people derived from their largely pointless lives is getting less and less significant as we no longer affect even the people next to us.

In your opinion

What is the point or what is fulfilling in life changes from person to person.

You like getting out in the wild and drinking beer. Fair enough. But who is to say that is any more benficial to the advancement of mankind than the housewife who loves corrie.

You may say you live s healthier life. But what if her objective and enjoyments come from other things? Or mine if you think i am prohecting. I however hate corrie. Lol

You may say you are less of a burden on the nhs and services. But only takes one slip at the top of a mountain to incure all the costs of someone who enjoys more 1st world pleasures.

Being autistic and without a large circle of friends because of my inabilities to socialise the interweb with all its ills is a place where i can make sudo friends and pretend to be part of the larger world without having direct interaction.

So just because ppl spend time online doesnt mean they are any less alive or valuable than you tbh.

You dont have to be competent in technology, you just use it..exactly what level do you call competent?
Coders think they are pretty good, but they are jusr using a laid over man machine language that is simple to use...I'd like to see them code in the basic nand and nor.
Simplicity is the key..when you drink a beer the brain doesnt bother you with the millions of functions reqd.
Synapse interaction..muscle movement and position detection..
It just happens and thats how the world needs to go forward...stop teaching people from the ground up over and over again.
Start at the top...'heres a computer...what can you do with it and dont concern yourself how it works..they just do.'

Coding nand-nor on chips and what not, using oscillators to measure just to make led lights behave in certain manners, that's what we learned in school. Not my idea of a fun time.
But, i do agree with you Job.

Bollocks.

I have very little IT training for the workplace yet I am competent in everything that is thrown at me in terms of software because I have a brain and I understand how software basically works (however school has given me an iPad and I have absolutely 0 idea how to use it).

Sure kids will have to be taught how to write out reports and such, but simply by being able to log into an online portal click through a few things and get on the correct page is a task that takes a couple of seconds, but i've seen plenty of people 40+ who are 'it incompetent' not being able to do it.

Simple stuff like plugging a HDMI cable into your computer - the amount of teachers I've seen call IT technicians to do it for them is beyond belief, some of them get concerned when I do it for them because I'm not qualified.

If you haven't had your period in say... 7-8 months or so, maybe you should speak to someone. And yes, there's contraceptives that keep aunt flow at bay and even stop her from coming at all, but it's not like that is the only change you go through in a pregnancy.

My guess is that either Mr. didn't want kids (at all, or right now) and Mrs. was afraid how he would react if she told him. Or Mrs. have had a special delivery by the mailman on a regular basis.

I use youtube all the time for help on boilers..how does this bit come out..wheres this part, what voltage should be here...simple.
The next step is providing help for peiple with no technical.knowledge..dont touch this..turn this off.
Augmented glases with insta situation and context recognition..
It will be the standard in ten years time, in fact they wont let you work on anything without it.

I don't count that as IT competent. I count what you're describing as "not a moron".

I don't think that being 40+ not being able to plug in a cable or logon online is indicative of anything other than you either A) being sub-shelf-stacker in terms of mentality or B) being so incredibly privileged that you've got some cunt on hand to do it for you, so you've not bothered learning even the very basics. (And that includes getting the "IT guy" round - ultimately because you're fucking lazy, not because you can't - it's absolutely won't.).

99% of people can and do learn what they need. You were talking about these people being out of work in the future because of IT illiteracy? Nah - not going to happen - because the level of skills that they're required to know, if you're talking about this sort of shit, is so low that if their jobs demand it, they'll learn it.

I meant IT literate in terms of jobs that require a bit of real technical know how. So we're talking about different things. Being able to use devices is not IT literacy. If people's incomes depend on that low level shite, they'll learn.

I am not taking anything personally. Just stating your view of the best life isnt the same as others.
I didn't state what my view of a best life is. Personally, I think nearly everyone's life is largely meaningless. But if you live it online then you don't affect the people around you as much as if you lived it more in the physical world is all.

Direct from the mouth of one of the guys that came up with these tools. It's a really interesting watch. Worth fifteen minutes of your life.

My argument against the education system atm, is it is woefully pointless against the tools that being developed...as for the tools we will see in ten years time..its practically pointless.
Someone has to force a discussion on this, it will be difficult because so many people are entrenched in an old world view of worth/hard work/timestable education.
Teaching maths in utterly pointless...no one is ever going to use a human brain when the chip in a birthday card could beat the greatest mathamaticians at number churning.
Languages...pointless
History..vastly important to stop us repeating the bad bits.
The rest...google it.

Why pick lidl ffs irish have no imagination

Its Tallaght. Lidl is like Harrods to those fuckers (its one of the dodgiest areas in Dublin).

Having said that, if the shops don't open tomorrow we'll all be going the full Mad Max. We're nearly out of milk.
