Ill give you an example..one girl has an instagram page with lots of friends...school bully threatens her outside school to hand over her password..shes a quiet, nervous kid.
Bully posts pornographic photoshops of her sucking off one of the teachers on the instagram page then allows everyone to comment after sending ot to various idiots around the country.
It was her hobby, named after her and now its destroyed, police get involved.
Bully gets warning, home visit to parents who dont give a shit, 1 weeks suspension...and well the liberals win again.
Utterly fucking useless.

We can avoid social media because we're curmudgeonly old bastards; it doesn't work that way for kids. There's no point in saying "just switch off" anymore than telling them to stop breathing; watch teenagers interact with each in the real world; they're still on their phones and could be having an online conversation with the person right there next to them. FOMO is so intense with these kids because the conversation is going on all the time, so if you're not in the conversation, you end up becoming the topic of the conversation, and that's how the bullying starts. @Job isn't wrong on this one; a whole year of a school near here got suspended a couple of years ago because they were virtually trashing a couple of individuals (I seem to remember there was even a teacher involved).

Yeah I had a friend who made a Facebook page about a teacher he was excluded for 2 weeks and all the kids that joined the group got detentions.

It's a real issue in schools right now and part of the problem is that we don't educate about the internet properly, for instance most schools have an absolute 0 tolerance towards mobile phones in schools.

However many teachers are saying wtf, because they can be utilised as an educational tool - I sometimes tell kids to research stuff rather than asking me, even though they're not allowed to have their phones in school, but anyway.

The other problem with is it is that the argument for 99% of school rules is 'you can't do that in the workplace'.

But you can use your phone at work - it's just using it at appropriate times for appropriate purposes - I've seen many young people in workplaces who have absolutely no idea when they could use their phone so as a result they use it -all- the time on the sly and behave like they're at school.

All those 40+ year olds that are useless with technology and are in quite IT dependent jobs - they'll be gone.

At the end of the day, technology needs to be encouraged to used be educated about. There's many kids who are dropping social media, it's quite refreshing to see, it's a minority, but still.

You like getting out in the wild and drinking beer. Fair enough. But who is to say that is any more benficial to the advancement of mankind than the housewife who loves corrie.

You may say you are less of a burden on the nhs and services. But only takes one slip at the top of a mountain to incure all the costs of someone who enjoys more 1st world pleasures.

Being autistic and without a large circle of friends because of my inabilities to socialise the interweb with all its ills is a place where i can make sudo friends and pretend to be part of the larger world without having direct interaction.

So just because ppl spend time online doesnt mean they are any less alive or valuable than you tbh.

Coding nand-nor on chips and what not, using oscillators to measure just to make led lights behave in certain manners, that's what we learned in school. Not my idea of a fun time.

I have very little IT training for the workplace yet I am competent in everything that is thrown at me in terms of software because I have a brain and I understand how software basically works (however school has given me an iPad and I have absolutely 0 idea how to use it).

Sure kids will have to be taught how to write out reports and such, but simply by being able to log into an online portal click through a few things and get on the correct page is a task that takes a couple of seconds, but i've seen plenty of people 40+ who are 'it incompetent' not being able to do it.

Simple stuff like plugging a HDMI cable into your computer - the amount of teachers I've seen call IT technicians to do it for them is beyond belief, some of them get concerned when I do it for them because I'm not qualified.

I don't count that as IT competent. I count what you're describing as "not a moron".

I don't think that being 40+ not being able to plug in a cable or logon online is indicative of anything other than you either A) being sub-shelf-stacker in terms of mentality or B) being so incredibly privileged that you've got some cunt on hand to do it for you, so you've not bothered learning even the very basics. (And that includes getting the "IT guy" round - ultimately because you're fucking lazy, not because you can't - it's absolutely won't.).

99% of people can and do learn what they need. You were talking about these people being out of work in the future because of IT illiteracy? Nah - not going to happen - because the level of skills that they're required to know, if you're talking about this sort of shit, is so low that if their jobs demand it, they'll learn it.

I meant IT literate in terms of jobs that require a bit of real technical know how. So we're talking about different things. Being able to use devices is not IT literacy. If people's incomes depend on that low level shite, they'll learn.
