A *very* lucky escape. If it had turned over who knows how it would've ended. :(

Playing drunk DAOC at half 2 in the morning, makes it so much more difficult therefore entertaining.

The new Mac Pro
Specs are awesome, but the pricing is insane...guess it's professionals only..any idea how much you could build a same spec PC for?

http://www.engadget.com/2013/12/23/apple-mac-pro-review-2013/

"he base version goes for $2,999 with a quad-core 3.7GHz Intel Xeon E5 processor, dual AMD FirePro D300 GPUs with 2GB of VRAM each, 12GB of memory and a 256GB PCIe SSD. In other words, it's basically the same unit I tested, except ours had 16 gigs of RAM instead of 12."

Holy shit! imagine all those games you could play with those specs!... oh wait.

"Moved on to home users" one would assume that's because more tech savvy people would simply not fall for it, quite sad really, if it happened to me i'd just nuke my HDD, they can kiss my arse if they think i'd pay some back room internet hero money to unlock my PC.

It is not a case of falling for it. If you need the Data on that PC you have no choice but to roll the dice and pay. One of our customers got this while his backup drive was connected to his PC. Every file on the backup drive was corrupted too. He paid and he got his data back but this was before the CIA were on the war path. This is the nastiest virus I have ever seen and he got it when his Rugby Forum was hacked visited a page and 20 minutes later all his data was gone.

It's pretty obvious we need a fundamental rethink of the way we connect to the net and expose our data to the world.
Hackers right now can infect a website and load trojan on your computer by simply visiting a site, you don't need to download anything, the stupid goddam browsers do it for them.
Being savvy has fuck all to do with it, no matter how switched on you are they can bypass virus detection.
I just don't understand how there isn't a paper trail of money back to the criminals.
Where's the frickin NSA when we need them?

Silver surfers are for more likely to get infected and pay up. Any business with a clue would have backups that would pull them out of any shit. This virus is aimed at one man bands and home users. If the idea is to make money then going after innocents is sound business.

Exactly, it's not like they have a functioning moral compass. They are trying to make money and they will go after the easiest targets.
